Hello, my name is Johnie Souza (Pronouns: She/Her/Hers). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor from Oregon, and have worked in mental health for almost 20 years. I started in case management and direct support with adolescents, and then moved towards working in community counseling with chronically mentally ill adults. In 2012, after completing my education, I became a psychotherapist. I continue to learn and grow, most recently becoming a certified Neuroscience Informed Therapist in November 2022. This is my life's calling and I feel truly lucky to be a therapist.
Thank you for considering me as your potential therapist. I believe each person has a purpose, and is given unique gifts and challenges. Sometimes life becomes too stressful and chaotic to see your gifts and purpose. My role is to strive in helping you meet your counseling goals, to live the healthy and balanced you are envisioning for the future.
Therapy can be tremendously rewarding, however it is real work. If you are committed to the process, it can be a deeply enriching and liberating process, with a satisfactory outcome. What you put into this experience is what you take away from it. Know that throughout your process, I will be there to guide and support by offering insights and tools to assist you in coping and overcoming obstacles.
While I am supportive and caring, I will not tolerate any abusive language related to Black, Indigenous, People of Color, any member of the LGBTQI+ Community. I will not tolerate denigration of any culture, religion, ability level, or ethnicity, or political affiliation. Hate cannot abide within the boundaries of our professional therapeutic relationship.
With twelve years of experience as a mental health therapist, I can help you work towards actualizing your goals, to live a more fulfilled life. Together we can help you get back on track so you can live the life you visualize for yourself , and want to support you as you work towards feeling your utmost best.
Thank you, looking forward to our working together.

Johnie is a wonderful thereapist, and really just a great fit for me personally as well. She gives me space to explore things on my own time and at my own speed, gentling guiding and supporting me without pushing "breakthroughs" or forcing me to explore a subject I don't want to. She recommends articles, books, and podcasts that I might find helpful and really understands what I want out of therapy, and provides it. She has such a subtle way of guiding and advising that I'll feel like I did basically all the talking, but somehow wound up clarifying my thoughts and figuring out the best steps to take, without feeling pushed. She's great at helping me see what's been there all along, and helping me figure out how to stay true to myself when dealing with difficult people, and gives me a lot of confidence in my feelings and my choices. I am very grateful to have found her!

I have really enjoyed working with Johnie. She truly listens and cares, and is very supportive. It's so nice to have a therapist that feels like an old friend, while also maintaining professional boundaries. I was skeptical of video/distanced counseling at first. But we adapt to the times we are in. Johnie makes it feel comfortable and casual, even through a screen.

I don’t think I would be the same person I am today without her. Johnie is the kindest, humorous and most gentle person.

Her investment, compassion, and care for my mental health has helped me immensely - she is always quick to reply, happy to push up a session when something emotional has happened, remembers the details of our previous talks, gives me the safe space to be completely myself, offers a wide array of solutions to problems, and always follows up on them. She truly cares about my progress and about me, even when I don’t care about myself. Thank you, Johnie!

I was in a really bad place and started off rocky with Johnie, all of this being my own fault. I told Johnie my fears, anxieties, and my tendencies to run when times get tough. We had a really good heart to heart conversation about my needs and I instantly felt more trust with her our first live sessions really solidified our relationship and gave me the trust I needed to be honest enough to really dig deep. She offers tons of worksheets and information and responds very quickly! She is such a good fit for this toe of counseling and I'm very glad to have found her!!

I got turned onto BetterHelp from Tom Bilyeu's 'Impact Theory' and decided to give it a shot. I had been looking around at local therapist offices to attend a session in person originally but decided to give BetterHelp a try, largely due to convenience, but it's also a great price for the help and services you can receive.
Although I originally wanted a male therapist, I am very happy that there weren't any currently available in my state and that I got matched with Johnie. We've had 2 sessions already and it really has already started helping me get through these tough times and see the light at the other side.
I do not regret that decision and plan on continuing to use the service regularly.
