Julia Sather, LMHC
About me
Hi, I'm Julia Sather. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Sex Offender Treatment Provider (SOTP) with 15 years of professional therapy experience. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a community corrections officer (parole officer) for nearly 13 years. As that position changed and became further from what I wanted to do, I went back to school. I have a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Society and Justice and Sociology (University of WA-1995) and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (City University of Seattle-2009).
In my practice, I often work with court ordered clients. I also work with clients who have concerns about their behaviors and want to avoid becoming involved with the criminal justice system. Whether involved with court systems or not, many of my clients are trying to manage mood disorders, anxiety and develop healthy coping strategies. I have experience helping clients with stress and anxiety, mood disorders (e.g., depression, bipolar disorder), relationship issues, trauma (PTSD) and abuse, intimacy and sexual issues.
My expertise is in cognitive behavioral therapy. Examining the thoughts and feelings that underlie behaviors can be beneficial in making healthy changes in our lives. I also believe that a healthy sense of humor is one of the best coping techniques. I provide a safe, open environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy takes courage and I am proud of you for getting started! I look forward to hearing from you.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Julia Sather. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
I was connected with Julia in the middle of a lot of major life transitions. I absolutely dread 1st appointments bc they can be really draining and A LOT, especially with a lot in motion. I can feel really chaotic and scattered with everything I’m trying to communicate but after some general initial messages, I was really looking forward to our first visit. I felt like she was attentive and engaged, while also giving me space and drawing me in enough to articulate what is typically challenging.
Julia has a great energy, knowledgeable in areas directly related to the challenges in my life, and I appreciated her actually listening to what I shared, which I knew when she’d gently pause to genuinely ask for clarity or context.
Julia was able to pull key challenges from what I shared and share her plan for sharing resources for my therapy work. I love homework and she seems familiar and comfortable with all that the Better Help app offers so you will likely see your membership pay for above and beyond what you might expect.

It has been life changing for me to talk with Julia Sather. She helps keep me focused on the process of addressing my thoughts. More importantly she offers up tools and ideas to change the way I look at things.
