Kasimu-Richard Harley, LMFT
About me
I am an American with African roots who grew up in Pennsylvania. My journey to become a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist in California is a composite of all the life experiences that I have had privilege of having. I am a husband, father, brother, uncle, and son who has served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) during the Vietnam Era. I am a student of life and the opportunities it provides individuals to rise above adversity and trauma. For more than two decades I have helped individuals and groups address the intrinsic social and emotional barriers that hinder their ability to thrive. A core belief that I have is we are all born, ‘Awesome’ and oftentimes we encounter pivotal events in our lives that cause our personal and emotional growth to become stunted. I served as a mental health therapist in both outpatient and residential treatment facilities serving adolescents and adults with substance use and mental wellness issues. My work in educational settings focused on removing socio-emotional barriers that impeded student learning. In addition, I provided stress reduction and work-balance coaching to teachers and administrators. The treatment approach that I utilized is systemic and eclectic. Using cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices I can help individuals work through depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and loss, etc. Let us work together to empower you to “Walk in Your Awesomeness”.

My experience with Dr. Harley has been fluent from the beginning. He makes me feel like I am valued and is always easy to talk to and understand. He has not pushed his values or ideas on me and allows me to move at my own pace and for this I am grateful.

I highly recommend Dr. Harley. I have mentioned him to several people.
He has a relaxed, soothing and pleasant demeanour and he clearly has a wealth of experience. He can navigate a wide realm of interpersonal challenges with me, from stuff with my mom to stuff with my own perfectionism and long the way he accurately assesses what is going on in every situation and helps me to gain perspective and see things in a less emotionally charged and reactive way. He gives me actionable advice without ever overwhelming me with tasks. I have had several coaches, a psych and some counselors over the years and he is the best.
Thats subjective I know, but objectively speaking, he has the most breadth, and I feel I can be the most honest with him (you know when you're reluctant to say something and let your counselors down? That isn't helpful is it?). I never feel like I have to support him emoriobally like with my last counselor and I dont feel like I have to be a certain way. He manages his own energy like a pro.
When he talks it is golden, but he listens more than he speaks which feels correct. I have paid a lot of money to listen to counselors and that feels bad when it is 200 per hour. That's the other thing, why is he so affordable? I feel its the best deal in town and an incredible opportunity to see a tip quality therapist.
Thanks.

Great counselor with excellent non-judgmental approaches to issues. My time with Dr. Harley has been very helpful, and I would recommend him to anyone!
