Katherine Russin, LCSW
About me
I am a master's level Clinical Social Worker licensed in the State of Maine. I have been working as an outpatient psychotherapist since 1996. Since 2007, I have been working with veterans of all ages and backgrounds. Prior to 2007, I worked in a community mental health agency. I have specialized experience and training providing treatment for trauma and abuse related disorders, depression and anxiety. I have a proven track record of helping clients who have struggled with long-standing problems with relationships, family of origin issues and difficulties coping with the stressors involved in daily living.
My counseling style is warm and positive. I am endlessly hopeful that we all have the capacity to experience change and growth. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I work with people, not labels or diagnoses. While my baseline clinical approach is based on cognitive-behavioral theories, I am comfortable drawing on a wide range of evidence based strategies. My treatment interventions are based on the unique needs and goals of my clients. I believe therapy clients deserve to be informed about the treatment they are receiving. I see myself as a fellow traveler rather than as an expert on people's lives.
My greatest joy has been the opportunity to see the transformations that take place for my clients. Every single individual I have worked with has shown me the depth of courage, wisdom and strength that are built into the human creation. It is an honor to do this work and would be an honor to do the work of therapy with you.

Kathy did a great job of listening to me regarding a lot of difficult things that I’ve dealt with in my life. She gave me a safe space to open up and we are at a point of learning how to deal with specific situations that are stressful to me. Kathy gives me great advice and tools to help in those stressful situations. I look forward to implementing those tools into my life and it’s helping me dramatically. I look forward to sharing my accomplishments each week and I walk around now with confidence to respond the right way. The best part is because I’m changing my ways, the people around me are naturally changing for the better too. Thank you Kathy for listening to me and understanding me.

Kathy is attentive and so kind. She has helped me in understanding myself and my relationships, while establishing strategies to cope with different personalities in my life. Kathy also provided insightful worksheets and book recommendations when I was interested in deeper exploration. Highly recommend Kathy, she feels like an old friend!
