Kathy Allatt, BACP
About me
Hello, I’m Kathy, I am a caring and compassionate person and I understand first-hand how hard it can be to reach out for help and support. I want you to know that you are not alone and acknowledge the courage needed to take this first step in looking for support.
I really believe that the counselling process can help us to explore difficult situations, feelings and emotions at any point in our lives. It can also help us to understand ourselves better and provide strong foundations for our goals in life.
Sometimes life can take us by surprise and challenge us, and when that happens, we can often benefit from some additional support in order to understand the issues we are facing. Counselling can provide you with a deeper understanding of yourself as you work towards your goals. My role is to provide a welcoming, safe, judgement-free and professional environment so that together we can explore any issues you are facing.
I have significant experience working as a neonatal intensive care nurse supporting families to care for and bond with their sick or preterm babies. I understand that the neonatal journey is a rollercoaster of emotions and that transitioning from hospital to home can feel overwhelming. Exploring these feelings and fears within the counselling setting can help to understand the enormity of the challenges you have faced and explore how you can cope with the future. I have also supported many families with the loss of a baby. I believe that I can offer a space to guide parents through the grief and trauma of their devastating experience and support you to live alongside your grief.
My clinical experience within the NHS means that I understand how there is often a link between physical illness and our mental well-being. Having worked clinically throughout the pandemic I have a deep understanding of the pressures that healthcare workers are facing and feel that I could support you if you are struggling with work related issues.
I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor and work with the person-centred model of therapy. I am caring, compassionate and empathic person and feel that these qualities help me to connect with people and develop therapeutic relationships which enable us to connect on a deeper level. I will create a space where you are safe to share without the fear of judgement.
I understand that seeking counselling is difficult and may be daunting, I would like to reassure you that I have been in the same position and understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help.

Kathy is considerate and has plenty of proactive ideas to help. I feel I am in control of my therapy and she is guiding me. She has an understanding nature but also pushes you to achieve your therapy goals.

Kathy is patient, kind and empathetic. She knows when to push me and when to hold back. My relationship with myself and with others has vastly improved since I started working with her. She makes me feel seen and understood but at the same time challenges me to see what I'm not seeing about myself. Thank you Kathy.
