About me

Hello,
My name is Kim. I am a seasoned therapist who has been in the mental health field for over 30 years. Most of that time has been in the nonprofit world. I have had the privilege of working with multitudes of folks, some short term, most long term. In that time, I have worked with a very wide variety of client concerns including personal growth, depression, anxiety, PTSD, attachment disorders, relationship problems, parenting issues, teen issues, grief, loss and coping with physical pain. I have a long history of counseling folks who have experienced physical, emotional, or sexual abuse and everything that now comes with that. And lately everything that has changed with the experiences of COVID, in our school, work and homes.
I am a warm, interactive, and empathetic therapist. I respect that all of us have to move through life at our own pace and I will respect that with you. Your pace, where you want to go and how you want to get there. I will be direct and honest with you. I have used many different styles of therapy, depending on what my client needs and what makes them comfortable. Some of these include family systems, solution focused, existential, cognitive and psychodynamic. I also have a great belief in the healing power of loving humor.
I think I have been involved in mental health for most of my life. Both of my parents were in related fields. I left my undergrad college my 3rd year to intern in a group home in Nevada City, Ca. From that point on, I worked on and off there while I went to Cal State Chico. I then worked many jobs in the field for several years before and during the time I got my Masters in Counseling at Sonoma State University and my subsequent Marriage and Family Therapy license.
These days I live in a beautiful area of Ca. near the ocean. Everyone here seems to have a dog. I have one, but given a choice and the space, I would have more! I’ve always had dogs, growing up with them, then fostering them for a rescue, working with them for a humane society and then boarding them for awhile. There really is NOTHING like 5 dogs in your bed at night! Dogs are wonderful companions, can always make me laugh and are always there when you are feeling down.

If I sound like a therapist that would work for you, let’s get started.

I highly recommend Kim, she has jumped in to my chaotic reality and been very helpful in the most stressful time in my life. It is comforting to have her expertise and understanding while I transition from a failing marriage. She has helped me stay calm and find the courage to keep my boundaries and focus on my healing process.

Where to begin… It took me years to find someone who I felt like understood the situation I was in. When I found Kim my world was closed off and I felt lost. She has been fundamental in my growth and understanding. I have been working with her for multiple years now and I’m grateful because life lately has been really amazing. She’s incredibly patient, understanding but also challenging. We’ve moved through so many different stages of my healing and as we progress through each I feel the ability to go deeper because I trust her. She’s great and I’m thankful to work with her.

Kim was a great help to me. When you're grappling with life or relationship issues, it's easy to have a limited point of view. You just have the conversation in your own head as reference, which is very subjective. Kim helped provide a more objective, experienced view of things, which was really grounding for me. I kind of learned what I needed to worry about, and what I didn't. She was a good sounding board for my thoughts, questions, and worries. In the end I did achieve my therapy goal with her help: becoming a stronger individual and asserting my boundaries with a difficult person in my life. Thanks Kim!

I really enjoyed working with Kim. She offers so much wisdom in questioning my perspective on things in a very subtle way. Everything that I wanted to work on was prioritized and she held me accountable for the things I promised I would do while I was not in sessions with her. Kim reminded me that a lot of what I'm going through is often self-imposed based on social norms and that I could think and be more creative when working on my problems and working towards the life I desire. I would work with her again anytime. She's been very helpful to talk to.
