About me

I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in Maryland with 15 years of experience working with people across the lifespan. I'm also a Certified Reiki Master, Certified Yoga Instructor, and a Registered Play Therapist.

I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and relationship issues, and post-traumatic stress. I have specialized training in supporting trauma survivors that are ready to do the personal work to become trauma "thrivers". I also have a heart for working with women that are recovering from domestic violence/narcissistic abuse. Although I value my work with men, I hold a special place for women that are learning how to reclaim their power and confidence in self (first!) and in their relationships.

My therapy style is a mix of warm, non-judgmental, and experiential learning and conversation. I operate from a strength-based approach, which means that I offer a supreme embrace in who you are as a WHOLE person. I like to incorporate expressive-art and mind-body based interventions in my work because "talk therapy" can only do but so much. Organically, we will flow into incorporating mind-body based interventions--it depends on what's needed when in a therapy session.

If you're ready to WHOLEHEARTEDLY commit to your recovery, I look forward to partnering with you on your healing journey.

Supportive and warm, creating a safe space where I felt heard and understood

Written on Nov 18, 2024 after therapy with Kristian for 10 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, grief, parenting issues, bipolar disorder, and coping with life changes

I have been working with Kristian Owens for 9 months now and it has been a true blessing to have found her. She is a very compassionate and intuitive person and this creates a wonderful atmosphere for exploring the things in life that I have been struggling with. Work with previous therapists has been during times of my life when I was jut trying to survive, and while I still have some days like that, working with Kristian seems to feel more growth orientated.
One of the things she is qualified on is brain-spotting, and we have done a few of these sessions so far. It is a way to circumvent mental blocks, which I have plenty of. Once every couple of months we have done a brain-spotting session. The first two times we did brain-spotting, I was convinced it wasn’t working, until around 3/4 of the way through the session when I suddenly realized we were making progress that I had never made before. Then, at the end of the session, I was left with this feeling of “Wow, how did we make so much progress in a single session?” Now I just trust that it works and every time I’m left impressed with our progress. Kristian is hands down the best therapist I have worked with, and her diversity of having extra tools like this coupled with her empathy and intuition, really increases how much I benefit from our therapy work together.

Listens for understanding and provides reflective feedback. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed talking with her and working through my thoughts…. She helps me to realize my feelings are valid and matter!

Kristian has established trust with me. She has created a space where I can be my most vulnerable self. Kristian has engaged in sessions through listening and sharing strategies for me to implement. She checks in with me between sessions to see how things are going and how she can continue to support me. I am grateful for her expertise and knowledge and how she integrates my spiritual beliefs in our sessions.

For me, Kristian is a safe space. She makes me feel comfortable enough to share my thoughts and how I am really feeling.
