Dr. Lady-Dreama Gordon LISW-S, LICDC; born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, I was reared by a single father as my mother passed when I was just 3 years old, due to health complications. Childhood and adolescence were stricken with poverty, substance use, and the illegal activities of my father. Through all of his “demons,” he always made sure that I was taken care of. I was blessed to encounter a multitude of community programs, life mentors, and positive role models that have guided me into the helping profession. In the course of my upbringing and the formation of the woman that I am today, my father found recovery by addressing his trauma, and his grief of losing my mother, and landed himself on the same road as myself; helping others who are experiencing similar life struggles like us.
We graduated within a year of each other with our Master’s Degrees in Social Work from the prestigious The Ohio State University. I began working with children, and my father with the adult dually diagnosed population.
It was the loss of my father that shed a light on the importance of compassion, being provided a hand to hold, a glimmer of light in the darkest of days. I come with over 13 years of expertise in serving those in need and educating about the importance of mental health. Just like I was afforded the people who have come into my life during times of trauma, grief, and substance abuse, I too want to be there for my fellow brothers and sisters who are plagued with this plight.
