About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 14 years. I have an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of San Diego and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the Silver School of Social Work at New York University. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, parenting problems, career challenges, family separation, learning disabilities, and general issues related to adjustment/ and attachment, and general issues related to self-esteem .

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psycho-dynamic, trauma informed care guided by evidenced based practices. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. We will formulate goals together. I enjoy working with people on their thought process, actions/reactions, and how it relates to their life experiences. We can access how this helps or hinders your daily life. I believe that most people have experienced events in their lifetime, that when left ignored, directly impact our lives in the present. It is my goal to help you identify these events, and help my clients move through them. I formulate collaborative goals with each individual, couple, and family I work with, to identify pathways for working through issues from the past that hold us back from being our best selves. We will work to re-write a narrative that will allow you to heal, and live a life of fulfillment, joy, and satisfaction!!

I believe that each person has unique impressions and experiences, and so my treatment is tailored to their individual needs. I have a client-centered approach and firmly believe that clients are the change-makers and have the power to guide their own recovery. It is my goal to provide an empathic and engaging style throughout treatment while providing a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space. I am trained to work with all ages and especially enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, and adults. I am sensitive to multicultural issues and welcome working and learning from people from a variety of backgrounds. I hope to work with you in exploring your emotions, concerns, and trauma/significant events to help you find some relief and develop long-term solutions that bring positive results.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Lauren Passoff. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Lauren has listened, given great advice, and goes above and beyond, like sending check-in messages after I've had an anxious day coming up.

Lauren has been my therapist for over a year now, and she has helped me so much. She is such an amazing listener and has given me the advice and tools I need to navigate life! Things that I will carry with me and practice for as long as I can. Whether I'm crying, laughing, just doing ok, or doing really well, she has been supportive and helped guide me through it all. I'm so grateful to have found her!

Lauren keeps me accountable to myself. She has taught me to be aware of my patterns, to develop myself into the person I am becoming; and most importantly, that this is a process. Lauren listens attentively but is willing to be honest with me. I think what makes her effective is that she doesn't tell me what to do, but rather helps me come to a set of conclusions on my own. I am where I am because of her.

Thoughtful, attentive, down to earth, and most importantly - effective. Highly recommend.

Can I just say… this woman has changed my life. Never in the past four years have I felt as empowered, listened to, understood, entertained, and “real talked” to about the issues I have going on in my life. Lauren is not only a great therapist, but an adaptable one who is understanding of ones needs and time. When we initially met I was skeptical because although I believe in therapy it’s still a hassle at times to undo engrained negative beliefs from childhood towards it. It didn’t help that we had a bit of miscommunication in the beginning that made me a little more sour towards her at the beginning of our time together. Once I made it clear to her that I really wanted to take this time I set aside for my mental health/wellbeing more serious she saw the determination in me and gave me what I wanted/needed tenfold. She took notes of our conversations, she backtracked on things we conversed about, she challenged me on ideas and thoughts. She gave me reassurance and even employed assignments so that I may continue practicing self care, moving with intention, and adding more risk to my life. With her warm and interactive embrace I was able to achieve my goals that I entered therapy for within three months. For clarity my goals were to be more confident, have more control of my overthinking, and to prioritize self care.

Every video session I enjoyed and left feeling more confident, reassured in my thinking, ready to challenge myself, and spread more positivity. The days when I was not feeling 100% and felt as though I was regressing back she would remind me that I’m doing a damn good job prioritizing what we’re doing here… Most days I did not know how badly I needed to hear that. I know I am going to get to where I wanna be because she was a main proponent in having me believe in myself again.

If there’s anything to take away from this review it’s that you’re dealing with a damn good therapist who is communicative, funny, smart, wholesome, organized, efficient and a bunch of more good words in the dictionary. Love this lady and what she does, she takes her job *scratch that* PASSION very seriously. Book her before it’s too late. Trust me you don’t wanna miss out.

Lauren is great. I started working with her in couples therapy and have since transitioned into working with her individually. She's very responsive and empathetic and has created a space where I feel comfortable sharing. I really appreciate the way that she listens to, and reflects on, the different issues that I bring up. It's very helpful to have her frame things in a way that I might not be able to see myself, and I really appreciate having the opportunity to work with her as I continue to work on me.
