Laurie Mombay, LCPC
About me
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland with nearly 20 years experience providing counseling in a variety of settings. I have helped many people struggling with issues like depression, anxiety, anger management, mood disorders and trauma. I have a Master's Degree from Loyola College in Pastoral Counseling, which informs my approach, however most of my professional work has been in secular settings, including outpatient, employee assistance programs, and criminal justice (victim advocacy and corrections).
My counseling style is compassionate and non-judgmental, but I will also challenge and encourage you as you work towards change. I believe in empowering my clients by giving them the tools and skills they seek to live a healthier and more satisfying life. I think that insight is important but more critical is what you do with that insight once gained. My primary approach is cognitive-behavioral and I have a lot of experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, working with clients who have difficulties managing their mood and behavior. I regularly work with people who have suffered tremendous trauma in their lives and enjoy helping them find a path to recovery.
I went into the counseling field because I love listening to peoples' stories and helping them make sense of them. I stayed in the counseling field because I have a passion for providing a safe and nurturing space within which to encourage people to take those stories and experiences and create a life worth living. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you create your best life!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Laurie Mombay. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Laurie has been wonderful. She's allowed me the space to approach issues in my own time frame (while also pushing me to address things that need to be addressed). She's very kind, non-judgmental and easy to talk to. I was feeling very ambivalent about counseling in general and Laurie has really helped me ease into it and lean into opening up about the things that weigh me down. I had actually planned on doing better help for a month and I've now decided that I want to continue, in large part due to working with Laurie. She's also incredibly responsive in-between our sessions, providing email support as needed.
