Stemming from an educational foundation that included four years at parochial colleges, four years at Big Ten and state universities, and four years at a professional school where I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology, I went on to gain administrative, but primarily clinical experience in a range of settings that included a State hospital, County jail, nursing homes, a private psychiatric hospital, and several private practices. In addition, I have managed contracts and provided services through Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
My counseling approach is framed in client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, psychodynamic, solution focused, existential, and faith based orientations. In my early years, I was a generalist working with all ages and families. Currently, my preference is working with individuals in their late teens and older.
I view counseling as basically a process to learn more about oneself and/or relationship(s), and to make changes in those areas of life where one has control and/or responsibility. My role is that of teacher, analyst, and facilitator to help you reach your goals. I am sensitive to the challenges and obstacles that arise in examining one's thoughts, mood, and behaviors in the course of self-learning, personal/relationship growth, and change. From my breath of experience, I offer a range of perspective and skill building techniques through a flexible and culturally sensitive approach.

Dr. Netland bends over backwards to try and get me in sessions, and I deeply appreciate it. Most of my concerns may be petty, or I may not have much to report, but he will still take time out of his off time to accommodate me and my crazy schedule. If I could meet Les in person for coffee, I would. He deserves it.

He is a great listener. He never interrupts you or tries to twist your words. If you use a phrase that he doesn’t know he asks you to explain it so he can filling understand it. Then he tries hard to use words and explanations that you understand verses technical terms which most people don’t know.

Dr. Netland is incredible. I've never done therapy before, and he made it super comfortable for me to start up and continue with it. He's an amazing good listener and teacher. He's taught me how to handle certain situations differently or better than I would have before. He really takes the time to listen and asks a lot of questions to get the full picture and to understand. It's been an honor to have him as my first therapist ever, and I think many others would benefit from having him as their therapist just like I have.

Dr. Netland has been so very, very helpful! He's a thoughtful, careful listener. Particularly, what I love most about the way he serves clients, is that it's done through a psychological centered perspective. It's not always about my little this or that but largely tends to focus on the deeply embedded psychological workings in myself (& others) he seems to know what he's talking about so well, that we can often cut through the specifics or details of a situation & focus on the deeper issues at work in me & how they affect me in my relationship with the world around me. I am so happy to have been matched with Dr. Netland!
