About me

Hi! I'm going to tell you a little bit about my background as I know choosing a counselor can be daunting. I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Indiana University and a Master Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville. I have served over the years an ethnically and culturally diverse population. I work with all ages in private practice regarding many different concerns anything from: severe mental illness, complex trauma, PTSD, struggling with life changes or direction, family related distress, Parenting and developmental concerns, and couples counseling to name a few. Over the past 5 years I have worked with students (K-12) in a school setting as well, tackling again many different concerns such as: ADHD, Autism, mood disorders, family concerns, bullying, LGBTQ+, depression, anxiety, and more.

I practice trauma informed care in everything I do, as my background is in trauma treatment specifically. I am comfortable working with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders. I approach each and every client with dignity and respect. I am easy to talk to always with the goal to create a safe and non-judging environment. I want to meet clients where they are at presently and work at a pace that is comfortable for them towards their desired conclusion or goal(s).

I know that trusting a stranger with your biggest struggles is a difficult thing to do. I firmly believe that a good relationship (therapeutic alliance) between the counselor and client is essential for a successful outcome. I work very hard to respect these truths and provide the help that is needed in a very authentic and genuine way.

Finding a new therapist isn’t an easy process. Marissa put me at ease right away. She knows how to engage you and asks really thoughtful questions to dig deeper. I would recommend her for anyone especially, someone with trust issues.
