Dr. Mark Rauser, Psychologist
About me
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience providing clinical services. After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology and my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, I was awarded my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago Campus. After completing my program, I worked in a variety of settings in order to gain relevant experience with a diverse patient population, such as schools, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a geriatric continuum of care facility, and private practice. I then chose to focus my attention on my private practice in Chicago, Illinois, providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of presenting concerns for 10 years before moving to Maui, Hawaii. Since the move, I have continued to work in private practice along with providing and supervising mental health services in our public school system. I have extensive experience working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, attention-deficit disorders, self-esteem troubles, trauma, adjusting to life events, relationship troubles, and developmental disorders.
My therapeutic approach is best described as integrative, as I work to utilize the framework that I see as being most helpful to each individual or family with whom I work. I build upon a foundation of psychodynamic and interpersonal psychotherapy, while I integrate aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and self-actualization and self-esteem building. I view the psychologist-patient relationship as being collaborative, with both individuals working together to help understand the patient and the patients’ difficulties more clearly. It is my job to create a safe, comfortable environment where we can work together to help you better understand yourself and your difficulties more clearly, as well as develop a meaningful, helpful approach to resolve your concerns.

Dr. Rauser is incredibly sharp and insightful. In my personal experience, a lot of therapists just sort of listen to what you're saying and validate your feelings which does not really help me progress but Dr. Rauser is much more active in his sessions. He listens to you, restates key things you say but have not paused to understand the significance of, points out repeating themes and provides just a whole lot of great perspective. He has been more helpful to me than any other therapist I've worked with in my life and could not recommend him enough.

I could go on and on about how beneficial therapy with Dr. Rauser has been for me. I have been in and out of counseling for over a decade, and no one has been able to help me work through my issues as effectively as he has. Each session I feel supported, understood, and typically challenged in a positive way. After years of abuse and trauma, I finally feel like I am coming out on the other side.
