Mary Capers, LPC
About me
I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Tennessee with over 3 years of experience working in the substance abuse field. My counseling style is warm and playful. My approach uses motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, somatic therapy and solutions-focused therapy.
As humans we all have our own vulnerabilities, desires, insecurities, and each of us, our own past. Working with a counselor is a tool of empowerment that allows us to meet our goals, create self awareness, and foster changes we wish to see in our lives. With life’s twists and turns, we can get out of balance and have struggles with adapting to our ever-changing surroundings. I work with clients to find healing and growth in a safe, non-judgmental space.
It is my firm belief that in order to properly approach all of life’s external challenges, we must attend to our own internal challenges as well. I work with clients who are confronted with concerns about self worth, substance abuse, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts and many other stressors.

Amanda is wonderful. She's positive, caring, attentive, and thoughtful. It's not in her speciality list, but she's also a strong ally for LGBTQ issues that I was only starting to admit to myself. If you get the chance to work with her, you're starting on the right track.

From someone extremely anxious and uninterested in counseling, Mary has consistently made efforts to ensure my comfort. She, and Betterhelp, have made huge positive changes in the way I view counseling and this app as an outlet is probably the only reason I started in the first place .

Amanda was very kind and helpful during our sessions. She is easy to talk with and open with her scheduling times. She gave me helpful insight/suggestions for my life; anyone would be lucky to have her as their counselor.
