I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia, and I have been practicing therapy for 8 years. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, anger, abuse and trauma, OCD, ADHD, low self esteem, stress management, multicultural issues, racism, and adjusting to new life changes. I am also a parent and a pastor's wife, and I have experience working with parenting struggles, spiritual concerns, and church problems.
My therapy style is meant to encourage comfort, trust, motivation, and hope. My goal is to meet you where you are and walk with you towards where you want to be. I believe therapy should be goal oriented, but that each person has a different pace working towards those goals. I utilize approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and humanistic therapy. I try to adjust my approach to the needs and goals of each individual client.
If a client desires, I am also trained and able to use a Biblically integrative approach to therapy. As a Christian, I see the importance of using a Biblical worldview that reminds us that we are all created in God's image and with great dignity, but we all also experience the curse of sin in every aspect of our lives and the world around us. We feels the affects of betrayals, broken relationships, jealousy, pride, sickness, and pain. A faith-based approach to therapy that uses psychology but is also grounded in biblical truths allows us to see ourselves and our struggles on a deeper level, and also gives us hope and assurance that we are not abandoned and left to figure things out all on our own.
Starting therapy is a courageous step towards getting unstuck and moving towards healing, restoration, and a life of joy. I would be honored to work with you along this journey!

I’ve been working with Mary Jo for over a year. She is a great listener. She has a special way of providing insight in a gentle, but extremely helpful way. She is very professional while also being relatable. I’m so thankful I was connected to her.

I am grateful for Mary Jo. She is responsive, kind, caring and she helps me process through my thoughts and emotions. She’s asking the right questions to allow me to dig deeper.
I reached out when I was dealing with a situation that I was struggling to process and she helped me look at the various angles to help me see a different perspective. I was able to process out of the emotional upheaval into a perspective that allowed me to see my actions as well as the other side.
She has been a gift to me in this season and I am thankful.

Therapy with Mary Joe Allen has changed my life. It’s still a process, and I still have a lot to work on with my anxiety, depression, and other issues, but I can say that I am in a far better place now than when I started therapy a year ago. I look forward to continuing working on my own health.

Mary Jo has been a life saver for me- quite literally. I’ve had a variety of therapists over the last 20 years and they were fine, but no one really got me to understand myself or other people better than Mary Jo has. By understanding myself and others I have made so much progress. I cannot thank her enough.

Mary Jo is AMAZING! I signed up for betterhelp during the darkest period of my life (in what I now know was a Major Depressive Episode) and she was so incredibly understanding, gentle, and patient with me as we worked through it. Being able to message her for help was indescribably comforting and she was so timely, thoughtful, and insightful with all of her responses. I now have a repertoire of coping mechanisms and skills to deal with my anxiety and depression and feel so much more equipped to handle any issues that might arise. I would HIGHLY recommend Mary Jo to anyone needing help with anxiety or depression.

Being an Asian guy the stigma is that we don't go to talk to a therapist we should deal with our problems ourselves, at least for me. You only talk to someone professional if you've gone crazy or insane. At first I was apprehensive a bit skeptical but as we started talking I realized that it was liberating to know that someone can listen and understand you without being judged. She is really professional in her field. I couldn't be more thankful.
