Over my years of experience working as a mental health counselor, I have found that flexibility is the key to a good counseling experience. I will spend time to get to know you and establish a working relationship that will allow me to tailor your experience to what will work to help you reach your short and long term counseling goals. Just as we all deal with stress and turbulent situations differently, your counseling experience will be like no one else’s, and our conversations will move at your preferred pace to ensure you are comfortable and making progress towards a happier you. I truly enjoy helping others and take pride in developing a therapeutic partnership with my clients to work towards positive change.
My experience includes working in a university counseling department as well as serving as the lead clinician in a residential substance abuse program. Through these roles, I have worked with a diverse demographic of people and addressed a variety of counseling issues such as, but not limited to, substance abuse and addiction, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Whether you are seeking counseling for your relationship or are suffering from anxiety, depression, or addiction, we will work through it together.

Honestly the most I've ever enjoyed therapy has been with Matthew Mateika. He never judges me and understands more about my life and hobbies than any therapist I've had before. I always have good things to say about him to others when I do reccomend betterhelp. I have never had any form of a bad experience with him. Talking with him I feel like I can open up more about things than I have in the past with other therapists. I originally was in therapy as a formality for a process I was involved in helping my mental health, but ended up clicking so well with this therapist that I have since stayed working with him now for several years. Best therapist I've ever had, hands down.

I always feel better when I discuss things with Matt even if he sometimes challenges me to go outside my normal comfort zone. I know it’s for the best. Things have gotten easier for me since seeing him.

I am really enjoying my experience with BetterHelp. Despite feeling the need to speak to a counselor, I have been putting off going to traditional therapy due to the cost and scheduling demands. I have found that having the ability to participate in messaging with my counselor, Matthew works well for my schedule. Matthew responds to my messages every weekday and once during the weekends on a consistent basis. He addresses every concern and is honest and straightforward in his advice. He is very relatable and experienced. I would recommend this service, and Matthew to any friend or colleague looking for counseling.

I was so worried after I signed up for this that not only would I not receive help, but that this whole thing was simply too good to be true. Matthew Mateika changed that from the beginning. He has been helpful and insightful. I don't fear that I am getting therapy that is Less Than an office visit. I am relieved and grateful, and I will be a longtime BetterHelp supporter because of Matthew Mateika.

I've only been working with Matt for a short while but I feel he definitely understands me and offers his own personal anecdotes so we actually make a connection. Therapy is about establishing trust and being frank and brutally honest with the person. I have been in therapy for over 15 years and this is the first time I feel I have been completely honest about myself.
