About me

Hello. I graduated from East Carolina University with a Master’s of Science in Counselor Education in 2013. I completed my undergraduate studies in Family and Community Services, with a split concentration in psychology and special education. I also have an Autism add-on certificate. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and member of the NBCC. I have resided in North Carolina all my life and enjoy the beaches, mountains, and in between. I have been working in mental health since 2003 in a variety of settings, including mental health agencies, in-home services, school settings, private practice, and residential and group homes. I have worked with individuals, helping them overcome issues such as anxiety, depression, loss and grief, life transitions, past-trauma, substance abuse, negative habits, interpersonal relationship problems, family stressors, parental concerns, and executive functioning.
As a professional counselor, I prefer to provide a trauma-informed eclectic and integrated approach to counseling services based on the needs of the individual. The theoretic background that I most often utilize is an Integrated Approach of Solution-Focused Therapy with an accommodative integration of additional theories, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Reality Therapy. I like to assign out-of-therapy “homework” and encourage one to monitor progress towards goals. In therapy, we will likely identify stressors and triggers, apply positive coping skills and identify negative coping skills, address family patterns and life scripts or working models, and practice exercising mindfulness and building reflective capacity. I look forward to helping you achieve your happiness.

Megan makes me feel seen, heard, and validated. I'm thankful that Megan was my first counseling experience on this journey because I was really scared, but she is so easy to talk to.

Megan was positive and a good listener. We often planned what the focus would be for the next session but I liked how she always checked in at the beginning of our session if there was anything else that came up during the week that we should handle first. I've dug some into my childhood which has helped me better understand myself, my behavior, my responses, and perspectives.

Megan has been able to listen and pinpoint specific goals to help me in the process as well as helping me to recognize different habits and behaviors that have otherwise been overlooked. She has also helped me work on believing in myself and knowing some behaviors from others should not be tolerated. We are still in the beginning process of counseling and have a lot more to dive into, but what we have its been life changing. I highly recommend Megan. The book she has recommended I went out and purchased and has been eye opening as well as the worksheets being extremely helpful. Very much worth the investment.

Megan was really helpful counseling me on a number of things. She was great at exploring events and traumas throughout my childhood and adolescence which contributed to issues I have with intimacy, attachment, and self esteem. She worked with me to bring awareness to these things and how they could be negatively impacting my interpersonal and romantic relationships. She also helped me recognize addictive tendencies I have and identify triggers that lead to dangerous pleasure seeking behaviors. She educated me on how to communicate my feelings more effectively and clearly. This has lead to improvement and less tension in my relationships and allowed me to deepen my emotional bond with others. For anyone who is considering therapy/teletherapy I would recommend Megan. She is an upbeat kind hearted individual who seems the good in people and helps them become a better version of themselves.
