Melissa Hummelt, LMHC, LPC
About me
Welcome! As your potential therapist, I would like you to know that I really value the relationship that we create together in therapy. Before we have a chance to meet or if you want to have a better understanding of who I am, I have included some information about myself so you can decide if we might be a good fit. Having an open and trusting relationship is very important in making the most of our time together and getting the support you need.
I completed my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marquette University. I have been in the mental health field for over 13 years, and I have enjoyed using my training as a licensed psychotherapist to help many different people from all walks of life. I have been meeting with clients online for the past 9 years.
I am passionate about empowering others, creating awareness around difficult situations, and ultimately supporting people in creating meaningful lives and relationships. I primarily use a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) framework which means we problem-solve together to understand and change the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that interfere with your fulfillment and success. I also often incorporate other theories and skills (e.g., mindfulness, psychodynamic, etc.) with the understanding that each person's treatment should be individualized to their specific needs and preferences. Prior clients have shared that they find me to be warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental.
I look forward to meeting you!

Melissa is an amazing counselor! I genuinely mean that.
From the very first session up until now, Melissa has continuously showed me she cares about her clients. She listens. She guides. She's easy to connect with. Her intentions are good and she knows what she is doing. She is seriously the best counselor anyone could have! Melissa makes our sessions very comfortable.
All the progress I've made in therapy, in the past three months, wouldn't be possible without her help. I am truly thankful to have a counselor like her!

Melissa is the most supportive person I have ever met. I am so thankful that I have her. She listens, understands, and offers realistic and helpful solutions. She gets a read of what solutions would be within a realistic, reachable distance. Rather than saying, "start exercising every day." She says let's try exercising once a week and congratulating yourself on this big accomplishment. I am so thankful for her.

Melissa is understanding and supportive. She helps me think about things from different perspectives and lets me drive my goals based on my own logical and healthy thinking.
