Melvin DuBard, LPC
About me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina and a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). My Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree is in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) and my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is in Business Education from Winthrop University (Rock Hill).
I have over 10 years experience in the mental/behavioral health field and 20 years experience as an educator. I have worked with individuals and families with a wide range of concerns and from various backgrounds. I have found that I am most effective with those experiencing depression, anxiety, career challenges, and those who are generally seeking changes in their life to move towards a better future for themselves.
I strive to provide my clients with a welcoming, confidential, safe space where they can speak freely about their concerns and thoughts. I believe in treating everyone with respect and the "Golden Rule" is essential to me - treat others the way you want to be treated. My approach to counseling is client-centered and solution-focused with a cognitive-behavioral foundation. I try to help identify patterns of thought that may be keeping you from your goals and we will work together to develop a plan to address those thoughts. Ideally, I would like for my clients to learn how to identify these patterns of thought for themselves and be able to independently adjust to their circumstances as needed.

I consider myself unbelievably lucky to have this man as my therapist as I leave every session feeling beyond grateful. Quite simply, I have had far less anxiety in my life since working with Melvin and he is a major reason I have remained in therapy and continue to prioritize my mental health. Cannot say enough kind things about this man!

The absolute best therapist I’ve ever had

I like Melvin’s therapy so far! Not only does he make me feel safe to open up about my feelings and thoughts, but he also understands me very quickly, so I don’t need to overexplain. He always gives me new insights, which I really value. Besides our weekly sessions, he takes the time to read and respond to my messages and journals, and I really appreciate that. I am confident that he will help me grow and achieve my goals.

Mr Melvin carefully notes and listens in order to give direct feedback to his clients. And the feedback is always with the best interest of the clients mental health. Which is exactly what people searching for therapy needs. People need a therapist that will overall look out for your mental health, whether the person wants to hear it or not. Because the purpose of therapy is to take care of your mental health, not your bad habit that brought you to therapy in the first place.
