My name is Michael Leunig and I am a Member of the BACP as a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and Accredited with the GHR as Clinical Hypnotherapist and recognised Supervisor. I was born in Germany and due to family circumstances, we moved around a lot. My early life experience, childhood trauma, and then my journey through adulthood, battling depression and anger issues, have helped me to become the therapist that I am today. My healing began with Mindfulness and I became a Mindfulness Master Practitioner, eventually teaching courses to groups and therapists who wanted to incorporate Mindfulness into their practice.
The next step on my journey was following the dream of studying at a University and I enrolled at Salford University. I studied Counselling and Psychotherapy, and one of my proudest moments was achieving a degree, with my family around me on my graduation. Since then I have studied Clinical Hypnotherapy and now I teach courses on this subject. I have worked for Mind, the mental health charity in the UK. Furthermore, whilst working for Mind, I have been involved with the Blue Lights scheme, working with Police, Firefighters, ICU Nurses, and Counter Terrorism Offices. I have worked in various NHS Surgeries across the North of England working with patients through Solution Focused Therapy. Now I am in private practice, and my practice has won multi awards over the past few years for the most caring Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy Practice SME NEWS AWARDS. I currently hold the position as Mind Coach for the Oldham Rugby League Football Team.
However, that is my history and what is really important is, what I can do for you. I believe that it is every bodies birth right to be happy. Yet, sometimes people become stuck, what ever that stuckness may be, either through grief, childhood trauma, divorce, or abuse. I help people to become unstuck, to let go of their past, and to become that which they were always meant to be. I believe that my life experiences place me in a position to be able to walk with you on your journey. No, I do not know how you feel, only you know that. I believe that you already have the answers that you need to move forward, and I would like to help you find those answers.
I work through an integrative approach, using skills from Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique, Life Coaching, but most being there for you on your journey.

I can honestly say, that the work with Michael has changed the way that I can deal with my life today. He gave me tools that were incredibly helpful. Michael listens very thoroughly to my subjects and impressed me when he started to connect things that I have told him weeks and months ago. He is very kind and patient. I would recommend working with him any time.

Always very considerate and nice. Very good at reacting to spontaneous issues or problems from my side while still keeping on track with guiding me through learning to deal with my main issues.
Never created a talking environment in which I felt urged to talk about stuff I didn't feel good talking about!

I like the way he makes me aware of things. like vs love. Also the way he is just straight forward when needed. He gives me ‘homework’. Homework in the sense of trying to be more aware of how I talk to myself and how to separate my self value from other people’s opinions. I believe he can support me in bring out the person that I actually am.

Michael doesn't just nod and say "mhm, yes, I understand...". He asks questions, and he makes statements. That show that he listens, he cares, and he knows. Which is exactly what I need. He instills a sense of confidence in me that there is a path forward. That there is a future where I can overcome my challenges. And that I am not alone in dealing with it.

Michael has been my therapist for a short time now and it's the best thing that could have happened to me. Michael has a very calm and compassionate manner that makes you feel heard. I am seen and heard as a human being. He recognizes my actual problems and steers me in the direction to look a little deeper here too. I am very grateful to have Michael at my side now.

Mike truly helped me during my coming-out phase. He is really supportive and even knew in the right moment to say something that made me laugh. He is very human and has an empathic approach in his therapy. In my first session I was even able to fully open up myself. I can really recommend Mike as a therapist.

Michael Leunig has been a great help right from the beginning. He was always really respectful and I learned a lot from working with him. Even though I had not enough time to book a session every week, he still checked on me via texts on this platform. That was really thoughtful to me. Since Michael is also very understanding and sympathic, I definitely recommend Michael!

I had had only three chat sessions with Mr. Leunig yet, but I really liked his approach of therapy. Some things I'm grateful for are that he listens carefully and also focused on getting to know me better before diving into what my problems or obstacles are and how to solve them. He encouraged me to practise selfcare and was coming up with helpful small homework in-between our weekly meetings.
