Michael Porterfield, LCSW, LICSW
About me
Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to enter your life and help you during this time! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Alabama (LICSW) and Georgia (LCSW). My 10+ years of experience in crisis intervention, hospice care, and mental health have given me an extraordinary appreciation for life. Sometimes we struggle with BIG things, like suicidal thoughts, while other times we are just trying to "get through the day". Regardless of where you are I would love the opportunity to speak to you. I specialize in grief and know that loss, despite it being a part of our lives, can be life-changing. Other areas I work with are depression, anxiety, aging, end of life, and caregiver burnout. I am a Christian, and I respect how important our faith is to our well-being. My approach to therapy involves a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and many others.

Michael has been very helpful in helping me improve my mental health. He has assisted by lending a caring ear when needed, and also helping with new techniques to help improve my challenges with anxiety and depression. He is very knowledgeable and very responsive in general. I've found him very relatable to and enjoyed our conversations.

I really enjoyed my sessions with Micheal. He gave me some tools that I know will help me long term by processing the grief of losing my mother. He was very attentive and down to earth. If I ever need counseling again I will be sure to request him in the future. Thanks, Micheal for all of your help.

Michael is a great listener and has a very soothing southern drawl..which is calming and endearing. So far after 4 meetings by phone i am getting into a better place mentally with my issues. We are going to keep working together for the near foreseeable future.
