Rick (Richard) Jackson, LICSW
About me
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker based in Minnesota with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Social Work at Capella University, having earned my master's degree from the University of North Dakota. Throughout my career, I have worked with a diverse range of clients and have addressed various life concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, PTSD, phobias, OCD, and ADHD. I also have extensive experience in supporting individuals struggling with self-injury and suicidal thoughts.
I am particularly passionate about assisting introverts and those seeking to better understand their introverted friends or partners. Additionally, I provide support to caregivers of children—whether biological, adoptive, or foster—who face mental health or behavioral challenges.
My counseling style is warm, calm, and interactive. I firmly believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, avoiding stigmatizing labels. My therapeutic approach integrates cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and client-centered techniques, tailoring each treatment plan to the unique needs of the client.
Taking the first step towards becoming the best version of yourself is crucial. We all experience moments when we feel misunderstood, directionless, or overwhelmed by stress. I am here to support you on this journey.

Rick has been such a huge help lately. He challenges me to push myself into feeling more and he allows me to go at my own pace too. He's compasionate and determined to work on the things that I want to work on. I am so thankful I found Betterhelp and Rick!

This man got an amazing ear and heart. I went with my intuition, reading is unfit profile for my needs. A good therapist can handle anything. Psychology is complex but how good when someone can make it simple...?

Rick has been my counsellor for about a year, and he is by far the best therapist I've ever had. It is obvious that he really cares, and he is very engaged and engaging throughout our sessions (and in between!). I always feel comfortable saying absolutely anything, and I know he'll be in his usual solid, unflappable, helpful mood no matter what kind of mood and energy I bring to a session. He has a good sense of humour which helps to bring lightness to any situation, and he thinks up creative ways for me to tackle problems and reach more helpful thoughts and feelings. He wants me to follow my heart and reach for success, but he doesn't push; I get homework assignments which are always helpful, but I know it's a safe space and he won't mind at all if I haven't fulfilled them by our next session. I'm glad we've been paired up and I look forward to learning and growing more with Rick's help and support.

Rick is the kind of therapist I was dreaming for.
I am grateful to work with him, that i found him on betterhelp.com
As a person, he is very compassionate, encouraging.
Rick responds to my questions with intelligence and simplicity.
But not only, he also has very good tools that help to go from words/thoughts to actions in the daily life.
I feel a lot of support, non-judgment.
He is in the same time very professional and friendly, knowing how and when to use humour.
I had many therapists before in my life and Rick is the one who helps me the best to change concretely.
I also appreciate a lot that he is very responsive.
He clearly takes an authentic care of his patients.
I feel lots of attention, and involvement in his work.
I can tell that he really likes what he does and is truly a humanistic person.
