Risa Mendelson, LPC
About me
My name is Risa Mendelson. I have a MA in Rehabilitation Counseling and Community Inclusion. This degree enabled me to be able to serve diverse populations of clients to evaluate individual needs and plan and implement interventions. I have a BS in psychology (Human Development) and I am a licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. My experience as a therapist has enhanced my skills as a counselor because it has allowed me to look at each individual holistically (mentally, physically, and emotionally). I have experience working with diverse populations of clients that have physical challenges.
My counseling style is nonjudgmental, warm, and genuine. Rapport building is important to me so the client is comfortable with being open and honest. I will actively listen and ask questions to get clarification. My approach can be eclectic, clients centered therapy, cognitive therapy, DBT, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness therapy.
I have experience working with clients who have depression, decreased self-esteem, stress management, and organizational skills, anxiety, grief, anger management, relationship issues, and traumatic brain injury. My background allows me to zone in on self–care, and explore the clients’ strengths. I can communicate with clients, families, caregivers, guardians, case managers, and other professionals.

For the longest time I struggled with low self esteem, anxiety, anger issues. Risa helped me tremendously. She always checks up on me throughout the week and always replies to my messages. She has shared with me different coping mechanisms and helped me realize my goals. Her worksheets are the best. I highly recommend her as a therapist :)

Risa Mendelson is a excellent therapist. She has helped me a lot. She has taught me tools to use in my everyday life to get me through my stress, heartache, problems, anxiety, etc. I’m comfortable with her & she responds quickly when I write her. I’ve come along way since we started my therapy. She holds me accountable for the exercises & things I’m supposed to do for the week to accomplish the goals we set during our sessions. She checks on me through the week if she hasn’t heard from me. I highly recommend her!!

Risa was very helpful to me during stressful difficult times and I am very thankful she was assigned to me as I was a little hesitant and nervous to sign up. Highly recommend.
