Hi, My name as it appears on my license is Robert Kauffman, but I use the appellation, Roc. I came to this profession after a lengthy career in the home services business. I ended up with an antique furniture repair studio while I attended graduate school and performed internships. For nearly the past twenty years I have engaged with clients in a new way, focusing more on their psychological needs rather than their property needs. In both arenas attentive listening was a skill I possessed and served us well. I am a licensed professional counselor in two states, Massachusetts and Vermont.
But enough about me, let's focus on you. The most important element, whether this be your first time or a reappearance, turns out to be you made a decision to reach out for help. Well done. Our first matter of business is to formulate a therapeutic alliance. This may take a while as we become familiar with each other’s learning, teaching and communication styles. Just to provide a heads up, my approach is client centered and comes from a strengths based perspective. We will build our treatment process upon aspects where you have already demonstrated abilities and resiliency. Next, collaboratively we will construct your goals and devise a method to achieve them.
My box of tools that apply to this work contains several powerful items. Cognitive-Behavioral assignments seem to keep a person engaged in this work. Insight and Cognitive Interweaves along with Motivational Interviewing seem to clear the path ahead of us. I firmly believe and research bears out that mindfulness practices demonstrate brain changing capabilities. We can experiment with an array of practices and techniques to find some that fit. With persistence and support we will increase your capacity to overcome whatever obstacles you face.
My client base from adolescent to elderly spans the rainbow array of cultural diversity. It stretches me to come up with a human characteristic yet to be encountered, although I am certain some exist. I have much experience resolving trauma, grief and loss issues using phase oriented approaches. Adversity, particularly in the early years, usually springs forth many psychological symptoms, namely, anxiety, depression, attachment disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, somatic disorders, or even psychotic presentations. By treating the underlying issues, we will find that these psychological symptoms abate.
I look forward to being on your team, Sincerely, Roc

Roc has been everything I wanted and didn’t know I needed in a therapist. I notice and those around me have noticed such positive changes in how I handle life’s problems and setbacks, how my overall demeanour is more present and “happy”. There is no one I feel like I can be more
Myself with than Roc. He is gentle when he needs to be and also kicks me in the hiney with REAL TALK when I need it. Kind, patient, knowledgeable, understanding, empathetic, intuitive. I just love him and can’t thank him enough.

Roc has been a thoughtful and trustworthy guide for me through several major life transitions. Even when i struggle to follow through on actions we have discussed in a prior session Roc never makes me feel guilty or bad for struggling. Instead he engages in a mindful conversation helping both of us explore the inner workings of my mind and work through whatever personal history and context has taken me to the place i am at today.
Don’t judge a book by its cover (or do if that suits you). Roc is a very accomplished professional that knows his craft well and will help and seek to better learn and understand anyone he works with.

Roc is an extraordinary counselor. I had been seeking a therapist that not only understood where I was at and what I needed, but got to work immediately. He is kind, compassionate, and so empathetic! I have come so far in such a short amount of time, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. I give him my highest recommendation, and for anyone who is nervous about therapy or really needs that extra caring personality, Roc is your person!!! If/when I get back to therapy for more work, I will be seeking him out again.

In just a few short weeks, Roc has been invaluable in helping me process some short-term stress and think through long term goals. He is a calming presence, a great listener, and is insightful without being judgmental or presumptuous. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an experienced, even-keeled therapist who can help guide them through uncertainty. As someone who hasn't been in therapy before, I wasn't sure what to expect when I signed up for Betterhelp, but Roc has made it a very easy and positive experience, and I look forward to continuing to work together.

Before my first session with Roc Kauffmann, I was anxious, confused, and lacked clarity on every situation in my life. His approach is enabling me to deal with every issue, step by step. He does not impose in any way. He listens. His experience in dealing with different clients and his vast knowledge in various subjects, particularly pertaining to his expertise, is remarkable. If you lack clarity in any area of your life, if you are anxious about the current and the future, if your past is preventing you from moving forward, or if you are at that breaking point in your life where you need to make changes, then I highly recommend that you book an appointment with Roc Kauffmann. I am a satisfied client.
