Dr. Ruby Akhigbe, LCSW
About me
I understand what it feels like to experience anxiety, sadness, grief/loss, work stress, negative rumination, and role- overload. I have benefited greatly from counseling myself. It takes courage to pursue change; disrupt negative cycles; learn to respond and stop reacting; learn to communicate effectively; heal from trauma; heal from abuse; disrupt co-dependency patterns and dysfunctional relationship dynamics; just to name a few of life's tumultuous experiences. First, I applaud you for taking this courageous step to wholeness, you are seeking change and self-discovery. Hope is the "antidote." If you are looking for a safe space to begin a journey of discovery, change, growth, or healing, you have come to the right place. I pride myself on being empathetic and an active listener. I hold a doctorate, bachelor's, and master's degree. I have over twenty years of clinical counseling. Although I am certified in CBT cognitive behavior therapy, I pride myself on being eclectic, because I know that each client is unique. I also enjoy using a holistic approach to wellness. I am here to support and empower you in your journey and pursuit of change. I have extensive experience helping clients struggling with: depression; anxiety; OCD; Bipolar; stress; excessive worrying- negative rumination; relaxation difficulties; role overload; and communication difficulties (e.g. active listening skills, seeking clarity, getting an understanding; addressing mental filtering; and mind reading); and improving interactions with others.

Dr.Ruby very helpful! She helped me to see the blind spots in life situations! She provided helpful resources! She cared enough about me to get my rest! I can say I have built a relationship with her and that’s important with having a therapist to have someone you can trust!

Ruby is so wonderful, we clicked right away. She completely understood everything that I was trying to communicate, which is an issue for me. Putting my thoughts into words in real life situations. I’m 2 weeks in and me and my wife are already seeing hard results. Thank you Ruby!

Dr Ruby immediately addressed my problem. It was refreshing because she took a completely different approach than another therapist, not on this platform, with whom I had been talking for some months. She was emotionally much more present, than the last person. She is knowledgeable and I like that she shares information with me. I just started but I feel that she has my back and I feel safe.
