Ruth Carter, LPC
About me
Hello. My name is Ruth Carter and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 13 years experience in this field. Before becoming a counselor, I was a teacher who found many of her students in need of emotional guidance as well as intellectual development. I began to think that if I was going to help my students, I needed to know more. I left teaching to seek a degree in Counseling.
Over the years, I have seen people whose problems ranged from making a tough decision to changing their life; people who suffered from a situational depression to a major mental illness; people who struggled with poor decision making to living with an all consuming addiction. No change is easy, but they are possible.
Talking with a therapist is not easy for most people, and I applaud your decision to reach out. I have been trained in different therapeutic approaches, but my primary job is to listen. I must also provide you with a safe environment for your explorations. I will always treat you with respect and compassion. And sometimes I will challenge your thinking. Together we will find meaningful and useful strategies within your strengths that deal with your concerns.
Whether or not you come to see me, I am pleased that you are seeking assistance. I wish the very best for you.

Ruth is kind and caring. She takes the time to listen and understand what I am saying and offers sound advice. She makes sure I have a plan of action before leaving each session and checks in on me between. I truly value her as my therapist.

I’ve had many years of therapy in the past, with several different therapists, so I was looking for someone who had a lot of experience and could help me deal with some of the issues that I still haven’t managed to resolve previously. Some of these are underlying things that were buried deeper and that I didn’t know how to see, acknowledge or deal with but that have been really affecting my quality of life. After 6 weeks with Ruth I feel really hopeful, and have already benefited so much from her wisdom, reflection and generosity. She’s exceptional at active listening and seems to somehow be able to make sense of things despite how messy and complicated they feel. Her insight and ability to read the situation with such little information always helps me to feel safe and seen, and it really facilitates the sessions to feel meaningful and worthwhile. I’m so grateful to Ruth and look forward to the future benefits of continued sessions with her.

Ruth is warm and thoughtful during out sessions. She uses reflective questions and confirms her understanding of what I've said to help us stay on the right track.
