Ryan is AMAZING!! We have gone through six different counselors before finding our perfect fit. He is SO GOOD that we actually thought we didn't need counseling anymore... we were wrong!! we now know that when he helps us get to a "happy places", we can work on other things, but a dedicated time and space with a licensed professional counselor helps us navigate our BUSY lives and solve our problems without having to let it build and EXPLODE before we work on them. Ryan has been a gift to our marriage and our family. I highly recommended him.

Ryan is very understanding and challenging - in a good way. He sees where my thoughts are taking me and asks questions to make me think about what my initial response is (currently a negative mindset) and then to try to come up with alternative thought patterns (to encourage a positive mindset). Ryan provides a daily "deep thought" to allow for an engaging conversation related to what we are working through. He's been very helpful and available. And we're only just beginning!

Ryan has been a rock despite me being made up of quicksand. Ryan and I have had discussions where I have worked at painting him a picture of what life is like in my home in order to help him see that despite the words my best guy friends offer me, that my pastor gives, or what Ryan shares, they are simply that.....words. It is imperative that therapists make every attempt possible to place themselves in the client's situation. With that said, I would still recommend Ryan to anyone needing support and would rate his work with me at a 10. I know professional distance should be kept between the therapist and the client. Even so, I consider Ryan to be a someone that would have my back if needed. As mentioned earlier, he has been a rock when I have been quicksand. He's an amazing young man!

Written on Aug 21, 2019 after therapy with Ryan for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, intimacy-related issues, coping with life changes, coaching, and compassion fatigue
Ryan came into my life when I was lost, depressed, anxious and stressed. His help was available straight away which is exactly what I needed when the situation felt hopeless, and I could access it from the comfort of my own home. Writing has always been the best way for me to process my thoughts and I think I would have struggled to be truly vulnerable and speak honestly in a doctor's office. When I've had face-to-face counseling previously I have ended up sugar coating my issues as it's felt scary or embarrassing to say them out loud. That defeats the purpose. Online counseling is perfect for me and even though I'm now ready to stop, I am pretty sure I will need it at some point in my life again. Ryan responds back quickly, really listens and is non-judgmental, compassionate and warm. He doesn't do the work for you but rather gives you the best tools possible for you to tackle the issues and ideas to think about. I loved our weekly live sessions and I will miss them greatly - if only they could've been longer! My experience with Ryan has been priceless - I've been feeling like I've always got someone to go to, and offer some perspective and wisdom that friends and family can't always provide. I loved the ability to send a quick (and sometimes long!) message as soon as something was bothering me. Processing these things with Ryan straight away enabled me to nip them in the bud before they developed into a massive worry and a problem. Thank you Ryan, I will always remember you and I hope our paths will cross again.

Ryan made the best experience that I had using this app. He's extremely attentive, active listener, and his work ethic is just great! I have a friend using the app with different counselors, and he used to be jealous of me (hehe). I have only had one sessions with Ryan, but he was very familiar with my concerns and very attentive to my goals. I appreciate that he is engaged even though we do not see each other in person. I am from a small town, so knowing I do not run the risk of an awkward run in at the grocery store is actually nice. I also work in a medical field, which tends to cross paths from time to time, and that can also get shady in a small place.

Ryan has been wonderful. I look forward to my morning messages from him. He really gives me a "real person" feel rather than a cold, distant relationship that I've experienced in face-to-face counselors. Having multiple options to communicate with Ryan makes me feel that no matter what I'm going through I have an outlet to reach out to. I've recommended Ryan and BetterHelp to multiple friends.

Ryan has become sort of like a safe place. Whenever I feel like I'm drowning in questions or in feelings, I immediately think "I have to tell Ryan about this" or "I wonder what would Ryan say" or "How did Ryan say I should manage this kind of situation?" When I couldn't reply to his messages for a while, I kept wanting to tell him I'm okay. He's full of understanding, and his scientific approach calms me a lot. My problems are no longer seem like things impossible to resolve, but rather just things that though difficult, are totally possible to fix. And that, in return, made me want to work harder on them. I talk about him to my family and friends as if he's been my friend for a long time. So thank you, Ryan <3

I think the most important aspect of my therapy, is to be open and honest. I have never felt judged or uncomfortable to reveal any part of myself to Ryan. He has the ability to make me feel like I am no different from anyone around me, I am just dealing with something different. I feel better each session, just having someone in my corner; and I believe that, with all my heart, he’s rooting for me. He’s also open to different therapies and understanding when I just can’t do it. He doesn’t make me feel like a failure, he just encourages me to try, and for that, I am thankful.

I haven't had much experience with talking to someone about certain issues before, and Ryan was the first one. He made me feel comfortable right from the start. We have been talking for the past six months and his support has definitely helped me deal with what I was going through. He always replied in a timely manner and made sure to let me know if he wasn’t going to be available for a certain period. He would be there for me if I needed him, but he would also follow up with me in case I hadn’t contacted him in a little while. I really enjoyed my experience here, but I can honestly say that this was 100% due to Ryan.

Ryan is very patient and caring. I initially had a previous counselor who was not patient, which led me to getting a different counselor. He gives information and practical solutions to help you figure out what your problem is, which would make you examine your approach towards becoming a better person. He gives examples, and is patient to explain even though you repeatedly ask the same questions and complaints. I would say people like Ryan are rare, and they give us hope that there are counselors out there who are willing to help you.

I have seen several other counselors before meeting Ryan, and felt that most of the time I was there to receive instructions and advice. Ryan's approach is a little different -- you're not there to hear what he has to say, you're there to collaborate on a way to do things differently. Helping me find a way to confront my anxiety and awkwardness has felt so much more productive when I work with him because (for the first time) I feel as though I'm really in charge of my own recovery and progress. It's incredibly empowering.

Dr. Ryan was full of compassion and empathy, which were the essential elements I was looking for in a counselor.
My sessions were interactive - he offered me a lot of workbooks to complete and exercises to do.
I was subscribed for three months but I was able to reconcile my issues and worked out a pathway towards my future in just two months because of his support and expertise.
I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a touch of compassion and practical counselling.

Ryan Smith has a great knack for digging in a little deeper and asking questions that lead to more positive ideas and tools that I can use in my life. I had always thought I was a positive person and had not realized how negative I had become toward myself and others. Ryan has really helped with a paradigm shift of sorts and I am beginning to look at everyday events in a more positive light.

I don't have much to say except that Ryan has the ability to quickly become a friend than you can confide in... When I speak with him that's what I feel and I don't think of him as just a counselor and though many people may not think that's a good thing, that too me is priceless.
Written on Oct 09, 2017 after therapy with Ryan for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, lgbt, self esteem, anger, career, and bipolar
I was assigned Ryan Smith after feeling that I wasn't getting quality support from my previous counselor. I have to admit that I don't utilize him nearly as much as I should, but he has been incredible when I have. I have some pretty bad anxiety issues that stem from my younger years, but he has helped me reframe my thoughts so that this doesn't get the best of me. It's a work in progress, but he's helped me so much more than anyone else has! Also, he checks in on me when I haven't messaged him for a few days. He shows genuine compassion and care for my issues. I'd definitely recommend Ryan to anyone, especially people having issues with anxiety.
