Samantha Thornton, LPC
About me
In the era of Covid 19, social unrest, and financial strain people are more stressed than they have been in recent history. Life can change us for the better, or for the worse. We can become stuck. While we have labels for these things, the bottom-line is we get stuck and we can become unstuck. I am s seasoned helper who has been in the mental health field for over 30 years. I have worked with all age groups and diagnoses. I have worked in hospitals, clinics and in the community. I have a strong background in addiction, trauma and life transitions. I have made a life of breaking out of the boxes and labels, professionally and personally. I am well versed in clinical and professional approaches; but my strengths are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing/Change Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy and EMDR. But, I believe there are many ways to getting unstuck found in ones own personal curiosity, creativity, and experiences. I am interested in those I serve being able to describe their experiences in the own words, through their own expression, and though their own lived experience. I believe a person's history is social, cultural, spiritual, and emotional. I believe healing comes from a personal journey and making sense of things. Let's work together as collaborators!

Samantha helped me grow light years with weekly sessions for a year. I felt certain that it would take a good 4 years before I would be able to heal after nearly 20 years of trauma. Even now, while I am entering a new phase in life, Samantha knows where I started, sees my growth, and she continues to guide me, making me feel like I now have the protection of an Auntie!

Samantha has been helping me to overcome a depressive phase and gain new perspective on many issues in my life. I don't know where I'd be without her counselling. She is very patient and accommodating, but also knows how to ask the difficult questions. I am so grateful to have found her and stuck with her!

I have been working with Sam for about 10 months. My husband of 25 years and I separated, and we both started new relationships. With that came grief, depression, poor self-image, acknowledgement of how I allowed myself to be treated and how I treated him and the conundrum of also starting new relationships while closing the old one. She has worked with me on skills to help myself communicate with others and to communicate my needs and wants. Sam has helped me understand the grieving process is normal and what I'm feeling is normal. She's helped me understand that it's ok to not be ok all of the time.
Sam is relatable, she is kind, and she calls me out on my "stuff" when it's needed. I highly recommend Samantha Thornton as a therapist.
