Shannon Dameron, LISW
About me
I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Iowa with over 20 years of experience working as a therapist, mentor and coach. I have worked with clients that present with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. I am also a certified instructor for Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid, which is a training provided to those interested in helping decrease the stigma associated with mental health.
My counseling style is eclectic. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Have been seeing Shannon for a few years now. She's really helped me grow in so many ways. She calls you out when you're the problem but in a way that is gentle and not too harsh. She always adapts to your needs and is willing to listen and talk frankly about anything.

I’ve never had therapy before but if I’d known there were therapists out there as intelligent, caring and insightful as Shannon I would have done this a long time ago. She calls me out when it’s necessary as well! I have a fair amount to unravel and have a tendency to feel very overwhelmed at times. Shannon recognises that and ensures the pace is right for me to keep me moving forward without it being too much. A very skilled and experienced operator who has had a significant positive impact on my mental health already and continues to guide me through my journey with care and intelligence. I’m
not someone who trusts easily but after a relatively short space of time I can say I trust Shannon implicitly and feel very safe to open up. This makes the sessions and the overall journey a lot less intimidating and minimises the bumps along the way. Very kind and easy to bond with and talk to. Watch out for the killer questions though, she knows what she’s doing! :)

Shannon has been instrumental in my recovery. Never judging and always finding the positive without justification of negative things.
