Welcome to Better Help! I applaud you for taking this difficult step to seek help for yourself. I know it is not easy to open up to someone that you don't really know, but you have the courage to do something important for you.
My name is Stephanie Ellis. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am licensed in the state of California and North Carolina. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from NC State University in 2012. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which I received from NC Central University in 1998. I practiced as a Registered Nurse for almost 10 years in the U.S. Navy. I did various forms of counseling even as a RN with my enlisted personnel, junior officers and specifically counseling newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. After leaving the Navy, I attended a Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate Program to become trained in helping individuals with addictions. I have worked in many different settings over the years working with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, veterans, the homeless and medically complex care patients with a variety of personal issues such as anxiety/depression, substance use disorder, relationship/marital problems, grief and loss, family conflict, PTSD, anger management, and more. My approach to therapy is understanding, empathetic and interactive. I believe in validating your feelings and being non-judgmental. My approach combines person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, family systems, solution focused and attachment theories.
I recognize that it can be difficult to find a therapist you can connect with and feel comfortable sharing your inner most thoughts and feelings, but I believe that comfort is crucial to a successful outcome in therapy. I also believe that developing trust within the therapeutic relationship is critical and one of the very first things I begin to develop with my clients. I feel that we all need someone that we can share our true selves with in a safe and non-judgmental environment. I am extremely open-minded, understanding and non-judgmental when someone is sharing their private thoughts, feelings and experiences with me. It is important to me that individuals feel not only safe, but better after meeting with me. It is a pleasure to be able to help others on their journey to happiness and peace. Let me be that person for you.

Stephanie is wonderful! I have had several therapists in the past and never have I felt as connected to them as I do with Stephanie. She is warm and kind and makes me feel so comfortable sharing anything. She offers great insights and takes time to respond to my messages and send me applicable handouts. I appreciate her so much during a really difficult time in my life.

Stephanie has been a life saver during my time of great depression and challenge. She is truly gifted in what she does and has found her calling in how she gives back to the world. I've never had to use therapy in my life prior to BetterHelp and did have some reservations about doing online counseling. Stephanie has made me feel comfortable from day one. And she listens! Sometimes in situations like this when you feel all alone and that the whole world is against you, that just genuinely listening makes a world of difference. And I know for sure she has been listening to me on every call as the things I discuss and my life in general for the past few years has been quite complicated but she hasn't skipped a beat as she is able to recall things we discussed years prior. Oh and this is the first review I've left for anyone, that's how much I consider her skills. Great Counselor!!! Thank you!

I feel very comfortable talking with Stephanie. She will and has provided many tools. She will message me back very quickly if I have any questions. It is really hard to find someone you are comfortable with. I was not comfortable with the first person I was set up with and I just asked Better Help and I picked a new one. It was easy to switch. They even gave me a credit for the session. My only complaint is that when trying to contact Better help it is hard to actually speak to a real person in customer service. I got a lot of automated emails. I just wanted to speak to a real person. There billing is not based on actual appointments, they want you to do the same every time like always once a week instead of how you want to schedule. Like if I want to do once a month or once every three weeks you can not set it up like that.. however I really like my therapist!!!!! She is great!

Stephanie is a wonderful therapist. She has helped me work through my relationship issues for a few months now. She always has a neutral perspective and helps me think through it shoes with a clear head. I highly recommend her to anyone experiencing relationship issues.

Over the past 15 years I have seen many different therapists. Some were helpful. But not one of them was anywhere near as incredible as Stephanie. She makes me feel heard and understood in every single session. I wholeheartedly trust the advice she provides to me. She is always quick to respond to messages throughout the week and provides documents and worksheets to help educate you on the things you are experiencing. But NEVER makes you feel like you have to read or utilize them if you don’t want to. She just genuinely wants you to have any and every tool that available to help you. One thing I’m very appreciative of is the fact that she shares some of her experiences and the things she has struggled with throughout her life. It makes me feel much less alone with the things I have and still am experiencing. I’ve been able to better understand many of my past and current struggles because of the work I have done with her. Talking with Stephanie really feels like talking to an extremely close friend or family member. I could go on and on about the fantastic and caring therapist that she is. Just know, if you choose Stephanie as your therapist, you will not be disappointed. Thank you for being so amazing Stephanie

If I can give a MSW/LCSW of the years 2020-2021 award for her, I would. She is hands down one of the best therapists I’ve have ever worked with. I truly hope BetterHelp gives her a raise because she has been such a source of hope, love, and comfort not just for me but I’m sure for so many others as well. I can’t begin to imagine what my life would have been like without her. She has helped me come out of the darkest trenches and given me a source of hope and light that I never imagine would be possible in my life. Please give her a raise, a bonus, or even a paid vacation!!!! This woman does so much and has so much care, empathy, and love in her heart that it’s unimaginable. I truly want to go into the field once I grow into the best version of myself and be the guiding light for others like how she has been for me.

She is phenomenal and goes above and beyond the call of duty. I was having trouble in a relationship and at one point she was responding at 3am. She gave some great insight into what was going on and was simply amazing. I was also having doubts about my career but once again she made look at it in a different way that was just absolutely brilliant. I thank my lucky stars I have her for a counselor.

I felt comfortable talking and connecting with Stephanie from the very first conversation! She is extremely personable, provides a wealth of resources, and was able to quickly give me guidance to put into practice that helped me make strides in a short amount of time. Perhaps most importantly, Stephanie validated my experiences and emotions, making me feel capable in learning more about myself and the challenges I'm working to overcome.

Stephanie is so easy to talk to, she listens well, and (perhaps most importantly) she makes me feel very comfortable in all of our sessions. I trust her expertise and enjoy how she shares bits of her own story when it applies. I can honestly say, Stephanie has helped me through some of the most difficult times I've had with her knowledge, experience, and passionate yet gentle spirit. I would 100% recommend her to you!

I am a few sessions in with Stephanie and could not be happier with the experience. She is incredibly open and has made me feel comfortable sharing things I’ve never been able to share before. Stephanie provides an incredibly safe space and is willing to roll up her sleeves and get to work WITH you. I truly feel like she’s walking alongside me, cheering me on as I do the work. Simply put, before I started with her, I read a review saying she was “born to counsel.” I couldn’t agree more.
