Stephen (Steve) Bezdeka, LCPC
About me
Hello, Steve here- this is our first contact, as I write to give you a sense of me as a counselor and fellow human being. I grew up as a person that people were naturally drawn to talk to and was always interested in the human experience, in all of its many facets. I found one of the top ranked counseling programs in the nation at Idaho State University and received a Master of Mental Health Counseling degree and state license in 1994. I have worked with a wide range of challenging issues that come with life throughout the age-range. My approach has always been to help people better and more fully "see" themselves, through open-minded dialogue combining support with challenge to grow- and to provide the tools with which to do so. People often lose touch with their core values and find themselves lost, questioning who they really are, and what they truly need, not just want. I combine compassion and acceptance of the person with clear encouragement to take the initial steps toward their identified goals, as many clients want to change but are afraid to, and fall short, often trying to 'protect' themselves from anticipated or imagined outcomes. A meaningful and fulfilling life requires the will- fearful or not- to venture toward one's goals, without guarantees but with a belief that some risks are far outweighed by what is to be gained. Let's team up for a while to help you move positively forward on this incredible journey- your life.

I’ve been working with Steve for a while and I have to say how incredibly my life has changed in that time. From my relationships to my career, having someone who can really listen with a compassionate and critical ear has helped me understand myself better and also better my life. He’s an extremely experienced, professional, flexible, and well rounded therapist. He’s able to handle many different types of situations and points of tension with ease. Somehow while remaining neutral and never pointedly telling me what the right thing to do is. That’s why he’s so incredible! He is able to stay nonjudgemental, compassionate, and essentially helps us find the answer that’s right for us. While we all do the work ourselves, having him as a guide for part of my journey made a world of a difference. The tools he’s given me the space to cultivate I will always keep with me and I will be forever changed by our time working together. Its can be hard to find a therapist that can help you actually grow to be so much better so I’m very grateful to Steve for the work we’ve been able to do together.

When I read Steve’s first contact message it clicked. The person you read there is the counselor you get. He listens, he’s sincere, and provides feedback as relevant aimed at moving you toward your goals

Steve is everything you could hope for in a therapist. He's supportive & non-judgmental, but knows where to challenge your usual assumptions or behaviors in order to help you work through the stuff that is holding you back. He's incredibly easy to open up to and confide in, and he never pushes you farther than you're ready to go.
I enter many of my sessions feeling like I may just not really need go speak to my therapist this week, yet at the end of every one I feel that my time with Steve has been incredibly valuable. He's great and I would recommend him to anyone.
