About me

I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 11 years, with experience conducting individual and group therapy. I work with clients who are dealing with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, relationship issues, adjustment issues, grief and loss, and compassion fatigue .

I use a person centered approach when in a therapeutic relationship with clients. This means I make a consistent effort to meet each client "where they are" as they progress through the process of self exploration. I use evidence based modalities that include Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Narrative Therapy as well as Psychoeducation.

I approach my sessions as a team, addressing challenges together, as the client is the expert of his/her story. I create a space where we can work on resolving issues and where we can collaborate on treatment plans that are tailored to each client's personal needs and experiences.

When working with clients I strive to make the therapy experience genuine, positive, respectful and safe. Through a humanistic approach I assist clients in creating and meeting their goals, to address difficult life issues and challenges, and to regain a new perspective on life.

I love my therapist and appreciate her help and support

I have been very wary of therapy before because I believe although people need therapy, it always has a bad rep and is misinterpreted as something for people who are “not normal”. I beg to question, what is normal? As a Hispanic first born daughter brought up on old customs, I would think that I had to fix everything and Susan provided insight that allowed me to understand that I could “fix” myself to help better my situation. It’s still a work in progress but had I not searched for help myself, I would’ve never realized I had to adjust my own outlook from within. Susan works as a team with you, she never makes it seem like she’s above you, she meets you at your level, and has such a great way of speaking and redirecting the conversation to target whatever goal or topic you have in each session. Her expertise truly shows within the first session for sure!

She is highly recommended as a grief counselor. She listens and explains so I understand the emotional situation i am feeling and struggling with. She is well knowledge-based on the subject.
