Dr. Suzanne Cormier, LPC
About me
Hello! My name is Dr. Suzanne Cormier and I have been a helping professional for over 25 years. I have a PhD and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina. As a committed helping professional I have a wide range of work experiences that have helped me understand the life challenges people face and the emotional discomfort they may feel. My counseling approach is interactive and supportive. Practicing primarily from a Cognitive Behavioral orientation I believe that one size does not fit all. I consider my client's needs and comfort level and then utilize an integrative counseling approach. My goal is to help my clients create positive change and well-being. Positive change is achieved through a respectful partnership between client and counselor. In my practice we build on clients' strengths and resilience, and find solutions to the challenges they face.
My work has included individual counseling, life coaching, university teaching and student counseling/advising. I have an extensive background in human development, specifically positive self-development, resilience building and life transition adjustment. My most recent work has been with clients experiencing anxiety and stress with personal and/or social concerns. I have particular interest in working with people who are new to the counseling experience. As a counselor with a background in developmental and motivational psychology, I understand that life brings many uncertainties. However, I believe that people reach their goals as long as they have the support and guidance they need to keep moving forward. Importantly, finding time to laugh and smile is a pathway to positive well-being.
My personal life is a busy one. I have two adult children, one in the workforce and one who transitioning to a new career. My husband is a tech guru, and I am the human relations enthusiast. My favorite pastimes include volunteering at our local art museum, reading any type of mystery and laughing a funny You Tube videos. Thanks for reading all this! I look forward to working with you. PLEASE note: My sessions are conducted on weekdays at different times. Together we can determine a convenient time and day for our initial session. Thanks! Dr. Cormier

Friends said it usually takes several tries to find the “right” therapist. I chose Dr, Cormier based on her detailed and impressive BH description after a few sessions with my first therapist didn’t really connect. I am so glad I didn’t give up - Dr. C is kind, supportive, and incredibly perceptive in a non-invasive, non-judgmental way. Her familiarity with various approaches to ADHD, anxiety, life cycle stresses, etc. is simply stunning. But she has not once overwhelmed me with all of it! She has that rare ability to bring you into understanding sensitive topics with compassion and kindness, rather than clinical judgement. I’ve learned techniques, gained insights and even begun to examine long-buried issues that I thought would never see the light of day. With Dr. C’s knowledge and guidance, fear is fading!

Dr. Cormier was a delight to work with. She is incredibly kind, very easy to talk to, and you really feel heard and understood. I liked that she often left it up to me to decide where to go with a conversation or the sessions, but if I was ever at a loss, she would always have a suggestion. It was a perfect balance of working through things myself, and having someone guide me through it. She was so helpful in providing guidance and things to read and work on to help handle situations in the future, to help me grow.

Dr. Cormier is a kind hearted lady who I am very grateful to have met. She is super quick to address any concerns I have, asks lots of questions, and eager to start setting up goals to help me grow and learn.
