About me

Hello, I am Tamara Wright (you can call me Tammy) and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who is licensed to work in Utah, a Mental Health Counselor also licensed to work in Washington and a Clinical Professional Counselor licensed to work in Nevada. I have worked in the mental health field since 1991 when I began as a psychiatric technician at the Wyoming State Hospital. I have also worked as a Case Manager for Valley Behavioral Health in various settings. These past experiences inspired me to become more educated in the mental health field and become a therapist.

I received an AS in criminal justice (with a strong background in criminal profiling) in 2012 from the Salt Lake Community College, a BS in both psychology and anthropology (cultural anthropology with a strong background in anthropology of religion) from the University of Utah in 2012 and an MS in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix in 2016.

I have experience as a therapist working in the mental health field as well as substance abuse field and worked at Project Reality as an intern and at Odyssey House and Cornerstone Counseling as a primary therapist in residential and outpatient settings. Modalities I use in therapy are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy and other solution oriented approaches in my therapy as well as art, existential and narrative therapies. Due to my anthropology background, I enjoy working with individuals from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and I am culturally sensitive and informed in my practice. I also have experience working with the LGBTQ+ community. I like to make sure that my clients feel that they are in a “safe place” where they can share their feelings without judgement of any kind.

In my spare time significant other and cats watching scary movies, writing (I write under a pen name), cooking, gardening and collecting antiques. I like to crochet, make bread, candles and soap and go on an occasional adventure.
I currently work out of Utah where I am licensed and have a license in Washington and Nevada as well. I work as a contractor for the Betterhelp company in California, taking clients that only reside in Utah, Washington and Nevada.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I AM AVAILABLE FOR APPOINTMENTS MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY FROM 11:30 AM MT TO THE LAST APPOINTMENT ENDING AT 10 PM MT ON THURSDAY I TAKE APPOINTMENTS FROM 11:30 AM MT TO THE LAST APPOINTMENT ENDING AT 7 PM. Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Tamara Wright. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I have had many therapists, but most weren’t hearing me, just giving me textbook feedback. But Tamara listens to me, tries to understand me, and respects me as an individual.

I had been hesitant to start therapy for a handful of reasons (too expensive, too many therapists to choose from) and I kept procrastinating looking for a therapist, telling myself I would get to it eventually. On Jan 1st this year I was at a pretty low point, I was suffering from anxiety and depression when I finally enrolled in BetterHelp. The next day I was randomly assigned to Tammy and I’m so relieved not only that the decision was made for me but that Tammy has been a great therapist. She meets me where I’m at. She makes it a point to address all my concerns, coaches me through various skills, and provides me with tools to continue growing and learning outside of sessions. While anxiety and depression are still things I struggle with, overall I am feeling happier, more mindful, and more in control of my life. I am thankful to have someone like Tammy.
