Teresa Horldt, LMHC
About me
Hello!
My name is Teresa Horldt and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 17 years of experience. I began my career working with victims of domestic violence and then progressed to working with crisis intervention issues in a very busy ER setting and then to inpatient and outpatient treatment centers for substance use and mental health issues. The past 15 years I have worked with those struggling with substance use and addiction, depression, anxiety and bipolar mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma and grief and loss. I currently work as a Program Manager with a community based mental health program that reach out to people with schizophrenia, schizoaffective and bipolar disorders along with dual diagnosed.
I use an eclectic approach in counseling, to meet the diverse needs of each person. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help with personality disorders and people that want to address interpersonal effectiveness, crisis management, emotional regulation and coremindfulness. I utilize Motivational Interviewing and various recovery approaches (12 step; Refuge Recovery and Celebrate Recovery) to help those with addictions . I find that CBT is very effective with mood disorders, along with Solution Focused strategies. Mindfulness is my favorite approach to help with stress reduction and trauma. I don't believe one size fits all ! I treat all my clients with unconditional regard, respect, dignity and empathy. I feel that the judgmental world has done a lot of damage to our feelings of self worth and overall happiness, so my world view is one of absolute acceptance.
I hope that you are able to find my therapy styles and experience something of interest to you. I believe that as a true partnership, I can help you achieve your goals and attain fulfillment and serenity in your life.

I feel there’s always been this stigma around getting therapy. I was hesitant, but didn’t know what else to do so I tried it myself. I feel that Teresa has been instrumental in helping me get through not only the larger items impacting my current state, but also day-to-day things that have been compacting my overall well-being. I was shocked to be paired with someone so in tune with me immediately after signing up for BetterHelp. She has helped me to get through the really tough times, focus on mindfulness, and be aware of my triggers. I know that if I had not been connected with Teresa that this time and these life changes I’ve been dealing with would not have been handled in appropriately or how a person in the right frame of mind would’ve handled them. I am so grateful for her expertise, clarity, advisement and recommendations, and helping me through these difficult times, and especially for helping me get back to the person I was. I’m not there yet and we still have some work to do, but I am definitely on track and in a significantly better state than I was. Thank you, Teresa!

Teresa has been an amazing therapist in the past year, she has been able to help me through my anxiety when it has occurred and has also just been a great listener when I needed to vent or just talk about my week. I would highly recommend her to anyone who has any issues with anxiety or just needs someone to talk to.
