If you’re looking for mental health care in Kentucky, counseling center staff and independent practices are options. However, barriers to treatment, like a lack of available providers or transportation challenges, can make finding in-person appointments difficult. With an online therapy program like BetterHelp, you can find clinical mental health counseling from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you. This flexibility can make teletherapy a great option for busy college students, parents, and professionals.

With BetterHelp, you can work with a psychologist, social worker, or licensed professional clinical counselor to get the treatment you need to work through your mental health challenges. Whether you are interested in commitment therapy, need support with symptoms of a mental illness like depression or anxiety, or want to learn coping skills to improve your mental wellness, talking to a therapist can help.

While BetterHelp does not currently provide group therapy or family counseling, the solution-focused therapy you receive in individual sessions can help you work through challenges related to your personal or professional relationships and help you learn how to manage them more effectively.

If you’re looking for an online therapist, KY has many options. The licensed professionals listed below offer telehealth services statewide.

The answer to the question "Who is Jayne X Praxis?" has taken me 30 years to discover. The main thing I've learned is that I'll continue to discover and understand who I am for the next 30 and more years. However, I can tell you some of what I've learned so far, especially about my practice as a therapist and my dedication to my own healing and to helping others heal when I can. I have found the process of healing and the pathway of clinical therapy are at their roots the process of rewriting your personal narrative. It is taking out current understanding about ourselves and the world and the way those two things interact and creating a different story than the one we've been living. A story in which we are empowered to make changes, set boundaries, let go of the things that no longer serve us. and to discover and pursue our personal values. This also means we will find and identify strengths that maybe we didn't know we had, and find ways to manage the limitations that we comes from chronic illness. I see my role as more cooperative than authoritarian, creating a space for this work to take place, offering tools and resources, and sharing knowledge both clinical and personal, however it is you, and me, who do our own work. It is my own commitment to my healing from my own mental health issues and my journey as a pansexual non-binary transwoman that lead me to the decision to help others who have needed some guidance and support in their own journeys. To this end I have been an educator, activist, and advocate in the Louisville LGBTQ+ community since I came out in 1991. I obtained my MSSW from the Kent School of Social Work in 2010 and my LCSW in 2015. I have been a practicing therapist for 14 years and have worked with people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. I have found I am at my strongest when I provide individual therapy to adults (18+). I specialize in treating trauma and LGBTQ+ issues. as well as mood disorders, life transitions, AD/HD, adjustment disorders, and grief.

It may not feel like it yet, but even through taking these steps, you are making progress! Steady progress is what I work with individuals to achieve through several treatment methods. The approaches that we use may be different for each person, but my hope for each client is that they reach three things: a sense of understanding, a route to self-acceptance/inner peace, and productivity toward reaching their deepest desires. I am a licensed mental health therapist in Kentucky and Indiana. I was born and raised in a city-setting (Louisville, KY), but spent time learning and working in a rural community as a graduate of Western Kentucky University. My counseling style is nurturing but practical. My hope is that with the end of each session, you will feel understood and motivated, and will have a plan of action to work toward your goals. Some of my favorite treatment modalities include solution-focused, narrative, CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. I have an open door to all races, religions, ideologies, and sexual-orientations. My specialties include substance abuse treatment, anxiety, stress, anger management, relationship issues, race/discrimination-related issues, life changes, and parenting issues. When I am not working in the role of therapist, I covet time spent with my husband and four kiddos. If you are ready to move forward toward better understanding yourself, your issues, and your solutions, lets get started! Don't wait another day to start working toward the way of life that you deserve.

Welcome! Are you ready for a truly transformative therapy experience? I’m Troy—a therapist who “gets it.” In a world often shaped by heteronormative expectations and conservative viewpoints, I offer a refreshingly affirming and queer-centric approach to therapy. Rooted in inclusivity and guided by a socially conscious, non-religious framework, I specialize in helping clients find authenticity and empowerment. Whether you're navigating personal challenges, exploring your identity, or working through systemic barriers, my practice is a space where you can feel safe, valued, and understood. What I Offer: I work with individuals seeking clarity, growth, and empowerment. My areas of focus include: Exploring and affirming queer identities Addressing anxiety, depression, and life transitions Supporting polyamorous relationships and alternative lifestyles Gender Dysphoria Assessments and Letters of Support for gender-affirming surgery (available through my private practice) My Approach on BetterHelp: I use BetterHelp as a way to meet new clients and introduce myself in a safe, no-commitment environment. It’s an opportunity for us to see if we’re a good match for longer-term work together. My focus here is short-term, goal-oriented care, typically lasting anywhere from 2 to 6 sessions. I don’t provide long-term care on BetterHelp because my availability on this platform is limited; I only accept new BetterHelp clients once or twice a year. If we both agree that continued work together would be beneficial, I’ll help transition you to my private practice, where we can develop a personalized, in-depth approach tailored to your needs. Transition to Private Practice: For long-term therapy, I offer comprehensive services in my private practice, including: Flexible cash rates comparable to subscription costs Insurance options, including United/Optum, BCBS, and Aetna A limited number of discounted session rates for those who qualify Access to my full therapy schedule for greater flexibility To learn more about my private practice, visit www.queertalktherapy.com. About Me: Beyond my professional expertise, I bring warmth, understanding, and a deep commitment to creating a space where you can feel truly seen and heard. My clients describe me as approachable, insightful, and someone who genuinely "gets it." Whether you're working through a challenging time or simply looking to better understand yourself, I’m here to guide you with empathy and evidence-based strategies. Let’s work together to make meaningful, lasting change. I look forward to connecting with you!

I am a licensed psychologist and therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. As a PhD clinical psychologist, I have a comprehensive education in mental health and ongoing relevant training. For those exploring therapy for the first time -- welcome! For others, welcome back! Therapy involves talking honestly about yourself in private. Some thoughts or feelings you may have been kept to yourself — maybe for a long time. But in sharing your ‘inner-self’, your burden lightens a bit. Together, we can begin to understand your life better. Your life can move forward. It can regains its meaning. You can begin to build a life worth living. For some clients, the approach is more educational. You may learn new skills. Therapy is not always deeply exploring your past, but I will always ask about your past and upbringing. Each client is different. My therapy approach can differ too. Therapy sessions typically last a little less than an hour. I prefer to meet in video sessions. I find that meeting every week maintains continuity and momentum. We can message each other between sessions through the BetterHelp platform. Online therapy is as effective as traditional therapy. It can provide easier and more private access to a therapist and more flexible scheduling. However, while BetterHelp usually costs less than some others therapies, it is still not cheap. Is it worth it? I suggest you try a few sessions (maybe 2-3) and then decide. You may decide that the longer term cost over, say, 3 months or even longer is simply too much. But as with anything involving money, you should understand the details of your agreement. The introductory offers can differ situation to situation. I am not involved with this aspect of the program and will refer you to others within BH who handle that. Finally, therapy is not a quick fix. It is not easy. Making lasting life change may take several months — or for a few, many months. But I won't push for more sessions than necessary. My goal is for you to lead a life without therapy. We will not attempt to fix everything, but I think that together we can make many things better.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some commonly asked questions can be found below.

How much does a therapist cost?

Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.

BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.

Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.

How do I know if I should get a therapist?

Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions in Kentucky can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.

Does insurance cover therapy?

Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.

Is online therapy safe?

Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
