Are you going through important life changes? Is conflict or a loss of connection destroying your relationship with your partner? Do you feel a loss of connection with yourself, your family, with others, or with God? Challenges are often disguised opportunities to learn new skills. Hope comes alive when we change the focus and the interpretations we give to our experiences free from our own destructive judgments and those of others. Together, let's leverage dynamic change strategies, spiritual principles, and my 30 years of clinical experience to create an atmosphere where hope and health improves your relationships and your quality of living. I help adults ages 25+, address relationship crises such as escalating conflict; grief and loss; breakdowns in communication; issues at home and work; self-esteem; co-dependency; boundaries; and the role that trauma often plays in getting stuck and staying stuck in addictive behavior patterns. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an Advanced Certified Grief Recovery Specialist® with over 30 years of experience in the mental health profession. Through the years, I have developed a passionate interest in grief and loss, and I understand the impact of unresolved grief on every aspect of a person’s life. Whether you are grieving due to death, divorce, a change in your life (e.g., loss of a relationship, job loss, or relocation), limitations of your body, loss of health, or a loss of faith, I am here for you. Incomplete recovery from grief has a significant lifelong impact on an individual’s capacity for joy and happiness. As your partner in grief recovery work, you and I move from discovery to recovery. This process is action-oriented and provides steps you will use throughout your life. Grief recovery work is helpful for any person struggling with shame, guilt, physical illness or pain, sadness, anxiety, or a significant change in a familiar behavior or pattern in life. Although I am a licensed therapist, the Grief Recovery Method® is not considered clinical psychotherapy. It is an action-oriented tool kit that people can use for the rest of their lives to address every type of loss. Our partnership is therapeutic; it is not therapy. Therefore, I can work online with clients anywhere in the United States. If you are ready to experience peace and breathe a bit deeper, I am here. I would be honored to serve as your Grief Recovery Method® partner. I found great hope within the Grief Recovery Method®, and I know you will, too.

I am proud of you for taking this first step toward improving your situation! Have you been in therapy before and found it helpful, but weren’t quite ready to make all the changes you wanted in life? Are you ready to do the work and face your shadow side? Looking for a therapist who can be honest and direct with you so you will stop self-sabotaging and get out of your own way? Then come learn some new skills with me! As a professional who has been in therapy before, I understand it’s not always easy. Therapy can be quite beneficial, but there are times it will require a lot of deep self-reflection, hard work, patience, time, and the uncomfortable reality of facing the parts of yourself that aren’t so nice. In fact, there are moments you may not like therapy or even me! I will be honest with you and not just tell you what you want to hear, but of course compassionately. This is a safe space, with no judgment. Therapy does require getting outside one's comfort zone, and while this may seem intimidating and scary at first, I assure you, you don’t have to be afraid because you’re not alone; I am here to guide and support you through the process of your healing journey. Don’t let your fear, anxiety, depression, grief, attachment trauma, or any other issues continue to prevent you from making the changes you want in your life. More than likely, these thoughts and behaviors protected you at some point in time, but now they’re running your life and making you feel miserable instead of happy. Don't be a victim of your circumstances. Once you come through the hard parts you will be all the better for it as you transform into the person you always knew you could be! As an INFJ, Enneagram 4, self-identified HSP, and Pisces, I have all the feels! I enjoy utilizing my strong empathy with a holistic (mind-body) approach to therapy, combining solution-focused & strengths-based techniques along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and alternative methods such as progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness meditation, breathwork, and cultural sensitivity, etc. I am a certified yoga instructor (CYT-200) and am working on my certification in Integrative Mental Health. My style of therapy is more direct, yet collaborative, so I like to ask thought-provoking questions, offer feedback, and provide practical tools for you to work on outside of the session as well as expect you to engage in sessions and have a say in what we talk about. I can only help you when I know what is going on in your life and you attend sessions consistently. If you are motivated to do the work and take that next step, I am here to encourage and empower you! One of my main approaches is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a short-term therapy technique that can help people find new ways to behave by changing their thought patterns. The goal is for you to continue using these tools long after therapy so you can become your own support. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota with over 8 years of experience working as a mental health counselor. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Theater, and English from Dartmouth College and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Bethel University. I have extensive experience as a school-based therapist working with PreK-12th graders and their families. I have also worked in private practice and online settings providing therapy to teens and young adults. I have worked with a wide range of clients of varied ages with various concerns, including stress/anxiety, low self-esteem, identity development, codependency and attachment issues, life transitions, depression, grief/loss, social anxiety, and insomnia. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and Experiential Play Therapy. I am still growing experience in complex trauma (C-PTSD), crisis intervention, self-harming thoughts, and the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tools for emotional dysregulation.

20 years of experience offering psychology treatment

Hello! My name is Bob and I am a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Minnesota. I have 30+ years’ experience providing services in Chemical and Mental health as well as disability services. My early years were serving individuals with the co-occurring disorders of chemical and mental health. They are still my “people”. The past 20 years I have been serving individuals with intellectual disabilities as a supervisor and manager. I believe everyone wants to feel good about themselves and can solve their problems. Sometimes, solving our problems involves others. That's part of being independent and resourceful, knowing when we need others. I like people and will be curious about you as well as your issues. I’ll believe in you! You’ll feel that caring and curious spirit. If you work with me, this is what I’m most confident about: • You’ll like and accept yourself, with all your beauty, current struggles and flaws. • You’ll learn to manage your feelings so they don’t manage you. Doing so will help you be successful. • You’ll rediscover your purpose and become more hopeful. • You’ll discover gifts and strengths that you didn’t know you had. But, you’ll also have realistic expectations of yourself as well as life itself. Being human is beautiful and hard, even sometimes terrible but oh so worthwhile and wonderful. On December 26, 2004 I was body surfing off the Puerto Vallarta. It was the day of the tsunami which devastated Indonesia. A large wave beyond my skill level broke my neck and damaged my spinal cord. That savage gift and personal walk with disability has enhanced all of my skills and knowledge. So, I’m also personally and professionally well-versed in loss, life transitions and transformation. Mental and chemical health have been part of my personal journey. My approach to therapy is person centered: you're the expert on your life and will determine the direction and depth of therapy. There is no substitute for your wisdom, intuition and the steps you’ve already taken to solve your problems. We will work together but like physical therapy most of the work will be accomplished outside of our sessions. I lead with empathy and warmth but once you know and trust me, I won’t shirk from compassionate, respectful honesty. Compassion without honesty is enabling. We will work together in a positive manner. I'll be honest with you I don't think we're a good fit. I primarily use evidence-based techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and relapse prevention approaches. I tend to take a solution focused approach but some individuals may need significant time to process and heal from childhood pain, trauma or previous relationships. Dialectical behavior therapy can help you develop skills such as emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness. CBT can help you see the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. Motivational interviewing will help you increase your motivation and focus on your progress. Relapse prevention takes a positive approach to learning from your current and past journey to chemical health. As referenced in the opening paragraph, I have worked with individuals who have a wide range of concerns including addictions, depression, anxiety, disability, grief and loss as well as trauma. Most of us are ambiguous about change and it takes courage to seek healing and wellness. If you are ready to take further steps, I’m here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you, Bob (Robert) Wagner LP PS: Outside of work, I’m passionate about my family, both the biological as well as the family I’ve chosen. I love to read, be involved in my community and sports.

I am licensed in Minnesota with 13 years of professional work experience. I have a depth of experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, lgbtq+ related issues, family conflicts, & trauma and abuse. My career has been focused on providing services in a variety of private practice and clinical treatment settings, including residential, in-home, vocational, and educational programming and training agencies. Clients have remarked that I develop supportive relationships with them and their families without becoming overly emotionally involved. I have a broad and systems-based depth of knowledge of individual and family treatment and habilitation service provision in mental health, trauma, child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol abuse, foster and adoptive care, and therapeutic interventions. This knowledge extends to related services, including people with disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and developmental delays. Years of Experience: I have 35 years of extensive human services experience. Since graduating in 2013 with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, I have focused on clinical private practice. Areas of Expertise: I have a broad-based knowledge of individual, couple, and family treatment with those who have experienced marginalization due to being diverse or a minority in an unwelcoming majority setting. Their experiences can result in a range of stand-alone or co-occurring issues with anxiety, major depressive concerns, trauma backgrounds, personality concerns and issues related to neurodiversity conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), selective mutism, panic attacks, Tourette’s syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, I have experience working with people going through grief and loss associated with chronic pain, major illness, death, suicide, divorce, abandonment, foster care, adoption, child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, addictions and dependence, poverty and systemic societal barriers to quality of life goals, sexual identity and LGBTQ+ concerns and those interested in reframing their choices to more sex-positive and alternative lifestyles. I also have extensive experience in habilitation in the areas of treatment and disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, advocacy, autism spectrum disorders, independent living services, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, brain injuries and other developmental delays, severe emotional disorders, supported living services and mental Illness. Areas of Interest: Children, Teens and Adults, Individual, Couples and Family, Individual and Systems, Foundational Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, Trauma Informed Therapist and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies of many different types and techniques. Clinical Approach: I have an eclectic theoretical approach that allows me to practice an eclectic type of therapy featuring dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with adults, teens and families, emotionally focussed therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Adlerian, attachment, family and maladaptive systems. I also find benefit at times from Gottman Relationships and Conflict Resolution materials and Narrative, Person-Centered and Schema Therapy. And overall, I tend to find many of the people I see appreciate my understanding and attention to Solution Focused best practices. I see each client and their struggles as being unique and requiring an individual plan that is important to them, regardless of what others might think would best benefit them to work on first. I try to approach each client with empathy and genuine regard and strive to help my clients find wholeness. For these reasons, I appreciate many aspects of person-centered therapy. I also incorporate a behavioral approach toward facilitating change. I believe everyone can benefit from the skills taught in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I aim to teach people how to increase their emotional regulation and distress tolerance while increasing their use of mindfulness and coping skills and making needed lifestyle changes that maximize their mental health and quality of life balance and improve their interpersonal relationships. Education: Walden University, Master's Science, Mental Health Counseling, 2010 - 2013. How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Floodwood?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Floodwood therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Floodwood counselor?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Floodwood therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Floodwood licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Floodwood counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
