Thank you for choosing me to embark on this journey with you! "To get thru the hardest journey, we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping" Hi, my name is Kandace Graves, I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of North Carolina. I received a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2016. I am currently licensed in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. (13510). My graduate experience includes a 12-month internship counseling men and women within an urban community in Ohio. As your counselor my aim is to provide a safe and supportive environment where we can collaborate and work at your own pace to help you reach your goals. I work with men, women, children, teens, couples and families whom have experienced trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety. People who have difficulty transitioning into a new chapter in life and provide reunification therapy to families of divorce. I also provide couples counseling. The theoretical approach I use include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Rational Behavior Therapy. Though each person will experience hardship and difficulty, I believe that the problem with emotions and behaviors are generally a result of how one thinks and feels about a given situation. Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes each person’s uniqueness, value and worth which provide an environment safe enough to share honestly and openly. Dialectical Behavior Therapy emphasizes acceptance of uncomfortable feelings or thoughts rather than struggling with or rejecting them, allowing change to occur. Solution Focused Therapy relies on what was helpful in other situations in which the client was able to cope. All theoretical orientations are helpful in identifying the root of distress. I believe that knowing where you come from is important to know where you are headed. Trauma and other experiences have a way of permeating into other areas of our lives such as marriage, familial relationships and friendships. Along with the many benefits of counseling come risks. Since counseling often involves discussing unpleasant or uncomfortable aspects of your life, you may experience feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger, shame and helplessness, just to name a few. Counseling allows you to process your feelings and often leads to better relationships and relief from feelings of distress. In order to benefit the most from the counseling experience you must be committed, engaged, and do work outside of therapy to meet your goals. I abide by the confidentiality standards set forth by NCBLPC and upheld by the state law. All of our communication becomes part of the clinical record, which is accessible to you upon request. I will keep confidential anything you say as part of our counseling relationship, with the following exceptions: (a) you direct me in writing to disclose information to someone else, (b) it is determined you are a danger to yourself or others (including child or elder abuse), or (c) I am ordered by a court to disclose information. This platform is not to be used for emergency purposes. If you are feeling like you will hurt yourself or someone else please contact the suicide hotline and/or go to the nearest emergency room. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I am excited to join you on this journey!

My education includes my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Campbell University in North Carolina. I completed my graduate studies in Social Work at University of North Carolina in Wilmington. I have practiced behavioral therapy for eight years following my 2012 graduation from University of North Carolina in Wilmington. The populations I have served during that time have varied greatly. I have worked with children under 10 whose behaviors disrupted the success they could accomplish at home, school, and other environments that they were in. I also helped children ages 12-19 who were needing behavioral health services to identify their needs and how they could go about having their needs met that also allowed them to meet the societal needs placed on them. Societal needs being: appropriate school performance, eliminating or reducing involvement in the juvenile justice system, and improving interactions with those within the child's home. For years, I worked with adults with dual diagnoses of mental health and developmental disability. I am currently working with the military population where I do individual and couples therapy. My treatment approaches include learning what brings my clients joy, what they enjoy doing, who is important to them, and goals they have. I then dig deep into these elements to identify value system, core values, and how clients view themselves. From there, I ask in what way can I assist them to get to the destination they want to get to. The destination can be a mental, emotional, or physical. Also, the destination can be interpersonal. The therapeutic models that I use to aid me in helping my clients are: narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I have experience with clients that have symptoms of anxiety, trauma, depression, PTSD, low self-esteem, poor self image, self-critical, impulsivity related to anger, difficulty adjusting, grief, and loss.

Hi! I'm Ken and I have been in counseling for about 12 years. I have experience with a wide variety of disorders, with a particular interest in Borderline Personality Disorder and couples’ therapy. My approach is simple as I believe in a client-centered approach to therapy. We are all different with our own unique struggles in life's journey. Often all we are looking for is a listening empathetic ear that after a conversation results in the comment "that person understands me and doesn't judge me." That is what I strive to accomplish with every client. I also believe that every person is simply looking for love and acceptance. My focus would be to help you discover your own unique worth, and to see that anything is possible regardless of what you have experienced in life thus far.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Spindale?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Spindale therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Spindale counselor?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Spindale therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn how to best help and support you.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Spindale licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Spindale counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Spindale, North Carolina can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Spindale has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
