Reaching out for help can be an intimidating endeavor, but having the awareness that your life is not where you want it to be is a great first step. While I generally focus on the present, as we cannot change things that have already happened, we may look to the past in our search for previous success in managing the issues before you. I believe the trust built between client and therapist is the most important aspect in the counseling relationship and the pursuit and maintenance of this trust is an ongoing process. Whether you have been struggling for years or experiencing a new obstacle, I believe we can work through the concerns together. The strength it takes to ask for help is the same strength that will lead you to happiness. I completed my Master’s of Science in Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2005. I have been working as a mental health therapist for nearly 19 years in Nebraska. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with a variety of issues, such as anxiety and depression, trauma, anger management, life transitions and infidelity. I believe I bring a multi-faceted perspective to my work, as I have professional experience with inpatient care, case management, as well as outpatient therapy. Typically, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused and Motivational Interviewing while always stressing the importance of building the relationship between client and therapist based on trust, mutual respect, and unconditional positive regard. I look forward to the opportunity to help people with life issues that have left them unsatisfied. Our growth is a life-long journey and sometimes we lean on others in pursuit of our true potential. My hope is that I can assist people on their path when they are looking for guidance.

I have worked in a variety of mental and behavioral health venues, including at-risk and detained youth as a support specialist, a mental health crisis responder, outpatient therapist, intensive in-home therapist, and foster care therapist. My recent primary focus has been on behavioral modification, therapeutic skills building with implementation and practice, and resource connectivity targeting stability and maintenance in the community for those with severe and persistent mental and behavioral health problems. I have worked with clients with a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, mood disruption, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, adjustment disorders, parenting problems, suicidal ideation and self-injurious behavior, and anger management. Presently, I hold my independent practitioner license in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota; I am board certified through the National Board for Certified Counselors, with additional Nebraska credentials including Licensed Professional Counselor, and Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I work to provide individualized and active therapeutic assessment and intervention based on strengths and needs. My counseling style is warm and engaging. I want my clients to be as involved in their treatment planning and interventions as possible. I work hard to provide a mutually respectful and dignified environment that fosters growth and development towards improved functioning and a decrease in symptoms that may be making life difficult. My approach uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavior, person-centered, motivational interviewing, and guided discovery psychotherapy modes in order to meet each individual's needs and goals. Always remember, asking for help and seeking positive change can be difficult but it is worth it. If you are ready to take that step I will be here to support, guide, and empower you.

I hope as you read my profile, you will know that if you decide to work with me, I will give you my respect, encouragement, and share my knowledge with you. Our sessions will be focused on finding solutions to your issues, whatever they might be. I am an independent licensed mental health counselor, and have worked in the field for over twenty years. During that time, I have worked with individuals, couples that are together, and couples that are separated. I have worked with families coping with addiction, and many individuals coping with mental health issues such as: depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, OCD, ADHD, to mention a few. Sometimes problems were precipitated by life changes such as : loss of loved one, health , financial issues, and work and family conflicts. My approach is client-centered which was Carl Rogers' approach, simply "make friends". I want my clients to feel emotionally safe and know that we are in this recovery together. We assess the problem and make the treatment plan together. I also use Reality Therapy which helps them assume responsibility for their choices and actions and as they learn this, make better decisions going forward. CBT and RET are two more modalities that I find useful. All these are helpful tools for clients, but I find it's important to teach clients the art of forgiveness for others and themselves, "acceptance ". Add a dose of humor now and then, and life feels much lighter and worth living!! Clients actually look forward to their sessions. I hope you'll consider coming in to work together. Degrees: BS, MS, Licenses: LMHP 1510, LIMHP 1233 State of Nebraska

Tracy Russell
I am licensed in Nebraska with 13 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients of all ages with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, parenting issues, & depression. I also have experience with clients ages 4-18 years of age who struggle with severe behavior issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and challenges of life. I have worked with the parents/caregivers of varying ages with parenting concerns, life struggles, and trauma. I have been described as patient, compassionate, and caring. I am straightforward, often clients have said our sessions are more like a conversation. I have an undergraduate degree in elementary education, and I say I like to sneak into therapy. Also, I must be a detective at times, and in conversation, I will often learn things I may not have otherwise because clients feel it is irrelevant. I can see patterns of behavior or possible triggers. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. My mission is to see clients be successful in achieving their goals not only in therapy but in life. I always say, “I am here to guide you, and you do all the hard work.” When goals are created, I make sure it is realistic, achievable, and short to start with, long-term goals will come when and if the client wishes to create them. I may push a bit but never outside of your comfort zone. I feel it is important, to be honest in therapy, to help keep clients in a comfortable and safe environment. If I recommend something and the client is not comfortable or knows they will not do it, being honest about it saves time and a different recommendation can be made. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
