Hello and welcome. Thank you for reading my profile. I begin counseling by listening. Every person is unique and your experiences are different from others. I do not tell people what to do. Instead I will help you explore the possibilities that your problems reveal and guide you to choose the best path for yourself. Experience teaches me that people get stuck when the story of themselves doesn't match their current reality. The stuckness usually comes from believing that change is too hard or not possible based on past choices. The truth is we choose our way going forward. There may be obstacles, but giving up on the life we want is deeply dissatisfying. I enjoy joining people to encourage them to be true to themselves. There is only one you. No one can else can be you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Arkansas and Oklahoma. I have 26 years of experience in helping people choose their life instead of feeling like passengers. I have worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, elementary and high schools, and am now in private practice for my 16th year. My work is primarily with people experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, traumatic events, family problems, work problems, and relationship problems. I use problem solving, supportive techniques, and cognitive / behavioral techniques. But mostly I ask my clients to make changes and assess the results with me, then choose what works best. You are a courageous person to even consider taking this step. It shows you want to take back the wheel of your life. I would be honored to be chosen to see where you can go!

I have been in the mental health field for 10 years now. I have served many different nationalities of people throughout my career. My goal as a counselor is to create an atmosphere that is judgment-free. The most important thing to me is that my clients understand when you go through adversities you are not alone, and therapy is a call away as we move together for recovery. I seek to enhance the quality of life for my clients by providing evidence-based therapeutic services, education, and support, and by nurturing a healthy emotional connection. The therapeutic style is based on the client's therapeutic needs.

I believe that counseling is a process that helps you become the person you want to be, not by giving advice but by working together to help you solve your concerns. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as my preferred choice of treatment. CBT for shorts offers a variety of tools that be can be used to speed up your progress. I usually recommend a book called "Understanding, subtitled, Finding Peace and Serenity in Life and Relationships, this is to help you better understand the principles of CBT If you would like to check this book out it can be found on Amazon.com, it is a very old book but a good book. I also work with trauma victims who suffer from symptoms of PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event - either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary difficulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self-care, they usually get better. If the symptoms get worse, last for months or even years, and interfere with your day-to-day functioning, you may have PTSD. Symptoms can include all of the following: Symptoms of negative changes in thinking and mood may include: negative thoughts about yourself, other people or the world, hopelessness about the future. Getting effective treatment after PTSD symptoms develop can be critical to reduce symptoms and improve function. Symptoms can include, Avoidance Symptoms of avoidance may include: trying to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event, avoiding places, activities or people that remind you of the traumatic even. I use a thoroughly researched and proven method of therapy for PTSD that is called Written Exposure Therapy or WET for short. WET can be completed in as little as 5 sessions but may require more session for some people. If you have any of these symptoms and you want to get better faster, WET is one of the recommend treatment methods. I believe that it is a relationship between two people. It takes courage to seek a more happy and fulfilling life to take the first steps to change. Counseling is about making changes that you want to make. I have been a therapist for over 8 years. My full time day therapist position involves working with troubled women entangled in the legal system in various ways. I have previously worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I believe that life is much too short to not be happy, and every human should reach for that goal. Each healthy relationship between two people is unique and to be treasured. At times the journey through that relationship can be tricky. This is my way of telling you that sexual orientation, race, or culture are not barriers for me. I embrace uniqueness and promote that theme. My counseling style is relaxed and I believe in a therapeutic relationship in which we will work to find the answer and awareness together. I believe I am here to help you find your answers. Once again let me state that I am here to help you find your answers! Laughter and humor is often the best medicine even in a therapeutic relationship. I am trained in Seeking Safety and Finding Your Best Self by Lisa Navajits. If you are ready to take the journey towards solutions I am ready. I want to help others who want to help themselves. I will never pressure you to make future therapy sessions, but will encourage you to reach out and schedule when you are ready. I will make every effort to accommodate your schedule. I check for messages every day and will respond at a minimum within 12-18 hours.

Donald (Don) Heffington
For over 20 years I have been providing counseling services to the residents of Oklahoma. I received my bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Tulsa, went on to receive my Masters degree from Northeastern State University and then received my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor. My practice consists of counseling clients, supervising new counselors for their licensure and consulting with other counselors about their practice. Over the years I have employed a variety of therapeutic interventions for my clients ranging from Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Solution Focused Therapy. We all experience times in our life when we are unable to do those things that we want to, and our lives may become unmanageable and unfulfilling. These times may provoke feelings of anxiety and depression and may lead to substance use or other maladaptive and self-destructive behaviors and relationships. These emotions, behaviors and relationships can often overwhelm us and we experience a feeling of being stuck in our current situation with no way out. These difficult emotions may have been a part of us for so long that we do not realize there is a different way of living. If you are struggling with emotions, relationships, substance use or you find yourself repeating the same patterns, I would like the opportunity to work with you. After hearing from you about what you would like to change in your life, what you value and the strengths you will bring to therapy, I will work with you to determine the most effective plan to help you realize the life you desire.

Are you feeling lost or misguided on your journey through life? I can help you figure out your next steps, and navigate any challenges that seem to get in the way. My name is Sarah Young, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Oklahoma. I will walk with you, get to know you on the way, and help you learn and grow from your experiences as we go. I have worked with adults of all ages and abilities, who are coping with a wide variety of challenges. I find it especially rewarding to help people work through depression, anxiety, stress, and self-concept issues stemming from life transitions such as school and work changes, divorce and separation, loss/grieving, retirement, and health crises. I also enjoy working with and empowering survivors of abuse and trauma. I strive to treat each person with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach to therapy draws from an eclectic mix of theoretical foundations, including Humanistic/Client-Centered Therapy (CCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family Systems. This mix allows me maximum flexibility in adapting to individual client needs, abilities, cultural backgrounds, and communication styles. The first session typically consists of getting to know each other, and becoming comfortable working with each other; as well as an initial sketch of the issue(s) that led you to seek therapy. I will often ask questions when I want to understand something better. It takes courage to seek help in making positive changes in your own life, and you have taken that important first step. I would be honored to join you on your personal journey, whether it is toward change or simply enlightenment, and I can't wait to meet you!
