It’s common for many of us to struggle with stress, life transitions, and other challenges. Working with a therapist can be beneficial in managing a wide array of mental health concerns, but can also offer tools needed to explore more about yourself and build a more fulfilling life.
When looking for a therapist, Bend, OR can offer a wider variety of choices than surrounding rural areas, but finding the right therapist can be complicated even in a metro area. This is because there are a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches in the field of talk therapy, and which will be most effective can depend on what is being addressed. A licensed professional counselor who works with teens may not have the ability to help an adult who is looking for support for addiction. What you need may not be available at the neighborhood clinic, or a nearby practice may not be taking new referrals. This is where online therapy can help.
BetterHelp is an online platform that offers access to mental health professionals based in Bend, OR, from social workers, to psychologist, to professional counselor associates. These providers enjoy working in an online environment, have expertise in a wide range of specializations, and experience working with diverse populations. Simply fill out an online questionnaire and BetterHelp will match you with the therapist that best meets your needs. And because a sense of unconditional positive regard can be essential to success, if you need to change therapists at any time you can do so at no additional cost.

Jaye Bahre
Hello! Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Jaye and I am glad to have the opportunity to serve you. They say, “Do what you love and never work a day in your life”, well, I don’t know who “they” are, but they are right! I knew I wanted to be a therapist after finding a book about Freud when I was 10 years old. I was a voracious reader and I was captivated! Yeah, I know I was a nutty little kid, but I held fast to my dream. When I was 18, my life took a different path and I became a hairstylist instead, as I had a young son to support. I loved that work – the fast pace, the creativity, the mixing of chemicals in the backroom… it was FUN! The best part though, was learning about my clients through their stories and becoming a trusted part of their lives. People tell their hairdressers everything, right? What better training ground! I worked as a hairdresser off and on for 18 years and spent the rest of the time raising 3 beautiful children. When my children were a bit older, I decided I wanted to go back to school and fulfill my dream of being a therapist. I went back to school in 2003 and then started working in mental health in 2005. At first I helped co-running groups with children and then working with men diagnosed with schizophrenia within a small locked facility. While working there, I finished my undergrad in psychology in 2005 and started grad school in 2006. In 2008, I was hired by the Washington Department of Corrections and moved into forensic mental health. I have worked in forensic mental health, at a variety of facilities in the Pacific NW, for 13 years. In 2017, I worked at a couple ‘community health’ facilities and even spent some time working at the Multnomah County Jail. Its all been a wonderful, wild ride but I am ready now for new challenges, and thusly, I have decided to leave forensics behind and move into private practice. I love working with individuals and couples! I have years of experience with 'people of color' (is that a politically correct, relevant phrase anymore? I don't know... :) ) and years of experience with just about every mental health concern imaginable. I have many “specialties”, as in mental health topics that I like to help with, but my top specialties are anxiety/depression; identity issues; LGBTQ issues, intimacy issues and couples’ issues (intimacy, sex, divorce). My counselor ‘style’ is client-centered and solution-centered based in Mindfulness. I utilize various exercises/skills teaching and journaling as my modality of change with my clients. We will always work in collaboration together… Your therapy is all about YOU! I have practiced as a therapist for the last 15 years utilizing client-centered, solution-centered, strength-based style combined with empathy, validation and compassion to form a strong therapeutic relationship. I view my therapeutic role as one "with the heart of a teacher" in which I spend time finding out what the client desires in their life and then teach the client ways to create and attain their own vision of success through holistic, collaborative effort. My specialty is working from a trauma informed standpoint teaching Mindfulness for symptom management and distress tolerance. Starting where the client is on their therapeutic journey the learning/practice of Mindfulness allows for the exploration of belief systems and offers the client consistent safety and support needed for them to shift beliefs and try new behaviors. I am a proud member of the LGBTQ community! In my personal life I love spending time playing with my dog, growing mushrooms, writing group materials and having many outdoors adventures with my wife such as kayaking (she paddleboards, I am the kayak!), hiking, camping and foraging in the forest. We also love to do art projects and cook together. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you meet your goals in life… I can promise your hard work will be worth it!
Patricia Manning
Feeling isolated, sad, anxious, confused? Or are you struggling with a difficult personal or work relationship? Sometimes life is just overwhelming and that has never been more true than with the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic. Please know that you really aren’t alone in these struggles and that you aren’t “crazy” either. My name is “Pam” Manning and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in SC. Whether you are struggling with short term dilemmas related to your current circumstances or desire to delve deeply into your psyche to better understand yourself and develop an increased sense of purpose, I would be honored to support your journey. Forty-three years ago, while studying psychology at Wofford College, I began working with children and families impacted by violence in Upstate SC. I went on to serve as child protection worker and in permanency planning and adoptions. Over the years I continued working with children, adolescents and their parents in a variety of settings… foster care, residential treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals, alternative schools and at a shelter for folks impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. As my interest in helping people heal from traumas grew, I returned to college, earning a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling in 2008 from Webster University in order to hone my skills and better serve my clients. What I have learned over the years is that the human spirit is incredibly resilient. We are capable of great things in our lives if we can learn to cope with the circumstances that inevitably confront us. Philosophy and Approach: The overriding philosophy I utilize in my work is that of Existentialism. This model purports that many of the challenges of human existence are universally applicable to all peoples. Thus, problems all people face, such as loss, freedom, responsibility and the meaning of life are viewed in terms of natural stages in normal human development rather than in terms of maladjustment or mental illness. My overriding philosophy of existentialism is enhanced by the Biopsychosocial Model that underscores the individual’s unique life circumstances such as ethnicity, sex, gender identity, biological or physical challenges and socioeconomic strata. I utilize a Client Centered approach which incorporates an eclectic toolbox of techniques that have a common theme… they have all been thoroughly researched and are considered as “Best Practice” techniques. These include but are not limited to, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy and Play Therapy. I love the work I do, it is often challenging but never boring and I find that really getting to know a person is a gift… for me but also for my clients as they learn what they are actually capable of. I approach my work with a deep sense of commitment. The level of anguish that many people struggle with can be crippling and I have found that often, with support, newly mastered tools and a caring guide, people can heal from unimaginable trauma, achieve balance and even joy! I will honor your journey but will not back away from challenging you when your choices are ineffective or self-sabotaging. I look forward to joining you as you embark on the adventure of your life … the adventure of creating the best, most productive, joyful life you can!
Mary "Jackie" Downie
Hello! So glad you decided to stop by! I am Jackie Downie, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. You are on your first step on your journey. Some are looking for self-improvement, some are searching for ways to handle anxiety and depression, some are hoping for a new path out of past challenges. I have over twenty years of experience in counseling and therapy. I have experience in getting people where they want to go in their lives. I would love to be there for you! When I work with people, I start with what has worked for you in the past that we can bring forward again in your present challenges. Often people have overlooked their own positive qualities or ideas that can make a big difference. Together we will explore what from your past may be holding you back, and examine and think through new ways to think about your current life and situations. You might start with some new thoughts and behaviors that will create positive change. I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, attention challenges, trauma from childhood and teen years and trauma from more recent events. I have helped parents of kids of all ages and people in trouble at work. I have found ways for people who are extremely stressed by coworkers or managers to hang on and actually make their work lives better. I have helped those who have lost a special person to handle the phases of grief. Each person is an individual, with their own specific issues that they face in their lives that might be similar to others, but can never be exactly the same as another person. I am happy you reached out here. You will find the support and assistance you deserve. Hope to talk with you soon!

Corey Pitts
Devoted to not only assist you in embarking on a journey of self-discovery, but also, ways in which you can best utilize the gifts that you possess! I am an ambitious, strength based counselor yearning to change the ways that we view mental health. I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University where I obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My professional credentials include Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon, Qualified Supervisor (QS), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) in the state of North Carolina. My expertise stems in the treatment and management of co-occurring disorders, of which include experience in working with low motivation/self-esteem, life adjustments, trauma-related difficulties, anxiety/depression, substance use difficulties, as well as aspects of various mood and personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic, etc)! Although I consider myself to have knowledge in several treatment interventions, I utilize a combination of strength based and behavioral interventions, of which include Solution Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy with Choice Theory, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT). My approaches to counseling are grounded in holistic wellness and choice theory. Holistic approaches include inquiry about different aspects that make up your life and that you believe contribute to making you well or less well. These areas are integrative health approaches that focus on mental, body, spiritual, emotional, and connection wellness. I also harness skills to allow for further assessment and inquiry surrounding informed food choices, potential food allergies, as well as supplementation to aid with mental health improvements. Choice theory is an approach that focuses on our motivation to pursue a never-ending quest to satisfy 5 basic needs woven into our genes: to love and belong, to be powerful, to be free, to have fun and to survive. I encourage all individuals to lean into the collaborative process between therapist and client to find solutions to better your mental health. This therapy pursuit also facilitates a process of taking responsibility for the perceptions and responsibilities of choices in your life. I adopt philosophies that adopt a bio-psycho-social lens to most assist individuals in taking ownership of their lives once again.

Thank you very much for checking here: I hope to be of service to you. My 13+ years of experience includes many years of counseling and listening, across various cultures, ages and personal client needs, with a few years as adjunct professor at Louisiana State University, Shreveport, LA: 3 years of work as a patient counselor in a hospital psychiatric unit, and 3 years of practice in a pediatric clinic. My current solo practice is empathetic, accepting and non-judgmental, having also practiced as an EAP (employee counselor) in a very large hospital and city system, in which I was required to see anyone for any situation or issue they may bring to counseling. This unique opportunity provided me with insights and understanding of people beyond my own personal scope of experience. I believe this has made me more sensitive to the needs, hurts and stress of the various clients I serve. I am generally available 7 days a week for appointments, because I really do enjoy my practice and my clients. I am old enough to enjoy my 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, together with my wife in a delightful sharing relationship. This creates a relaxed, accepting and strong relationship and family foundation for your co unseling needs. My personal strengths hopefully convey to you a caring and positive mindset as we work together. Hope to hear from you soon!

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Bend?

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Bend licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Bend counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Bend, Oregon can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Bend has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
