23 years of experience offering psychology treatment

Hello, and welcome! My name is Kara Denahan and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Rhode Island. I have been providing therapy to individuals and couples for over 20 years. Currently, I am only providing therapy for individuals. I want to share a little of my development as a therapist as I think this will give you a better sense of who I am, both professionally and personally. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Design, specialty Photography. In my mid-thirties I decided to return to school and entered a master’s level program to study Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Rhode Island. I graduated with a Master of Science Degree from URI in 1997. After a few years of working as a therapist for other people, I opened up my own private practice. In 1999 I felt some dimension was lacking in both my professional and personal life and I joined a meditation group dedicated to the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist who I found to be compelling. I learned about the concept of interbeing and the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, acceptance, and cultivating inner peace. The wisdom transmitted in the teachings and the meditation practice deepened and expanded my capacity to connect and engage with my clients at a more satisfying level. In 2009 I pursued training in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D. I had been intrigued by this model of therapy for many years. IFS regards each person as a collection of parts ("a part of me wants to exercise, a part of me doesn’t") that interact continuously. The intention is to accept our inner world through connection with our True Self, which is wise and kind and non-judgmental. When we truly accept ourselves, even the parts of ourselves we might consider "flawed’", we are also able to accept others and their flaws more easily. We experience more ease within ourselves as well as outside of ourselves. Completing Level I (2010) and Level II (2012) of the intense IFS trainings had a profoundly positive effect on me. I am glad to be able to share these teachings with my clients. Truly accepting who we are is the best gift we can give ourselves. There have been many other influential teachers in my life. Most recently, I am intrigued by Polyvagal Theory developed by Stephen Porges, Ph.D, and its practical applications as presented by Deb Dana, LCSW. Polyvagal Theory explains the underlying cause of most physical and mental disorders is a chronically dysregulated nervous system in a state of threat. I am also in awe of Daniel Siegel, M.D., a neuropsychiatrist who has developed Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), a therapy that beautifully integrates neuroscience, attachment theory and meditation practice. Rick Hanson, Ph.D, also blends neuroscience with ancient wisdom traditions and offers practical, simple, and effective techniques for increased personal well-being. Martha Beck is another source of inspiration who masterfully weaves humor with wisdom and has the gift of making the metaphysical credible. I am forever grateful to the teachings of Brene Brown for so clearly delineating the difference between shame and guilt, and for being an advocate for vulnerability, under the right conditions. I pass on to my clients the knowledge I have integrated from these wise and kind masters. What I know is that there is not a one size fits all form of therapy. What works for you may not work for your friend. There are many doors to move through in life, and I make it my mission to help you find the best door for you to step through to a more fulfilling life. I know if you follow that which inspires and uplifts you then you will find your way. It is my joy and honor to be with you as you discover and uncover the unlimited potential that is you at your essence. What I have to offer you is years of accumulated wisdom and the ability to be fully present, expertise gained through following my heart to that which inspires and uplifts me. I hope to inspire you. Please be aware that I only work mornings, Monday through Friday, and I prefer scheduled live chat/phone/video sessions.

Hi there. Thank you for being curious about my profile. I appreciate the difficulty involved in reaching out for help and support. I lived in Rhode Island and had a therapy practice in Bristol, RI for years. I relocated to Salem, New Hampshire in 2019. I hold a license in NH. My license number is 2097 with the NH Board of Mental Health Practice. I have had a long career in human services and have had my own practice as a therapist for over 10 years. I am a mature therapist, both in years and experience. My experience has been with individuals with anxiety, panic symptoms, fears and phobias, depression symptoms such as low motivation, family and relationship stress, and self-esteem and confidence issues. I also have experience with the grief process. My approach is first to establish trust with you, then to help you crystallize what you want to be different in your life. After you have that clarity, we will add tools to your toolbox that you can use to make the changes you desire. I have a clinical supervisor with whom I discuss symptoms. I do not disclose any identifying information so as to protect confidentiality for my clients. Most clinicians have regular supervision and I feel it is necessary to have another professional's perspective, advice, and support as part of my career. When you sign the agreement to work with me you are agreeing to my continued professional relationship with my supervisor that may include discussing one or more of your symptoms. And you are also benefitting from another experienced clinician's advice. Unless I were to have a signed release from you, I am ethically prohibited from disclosing any personal information of yours that would identify you. It’s not easy making changes in our lives, but I will give you the support, encouragement, strategies and feedback along the way that will make the process easier and more likely that you will succeed with your goals.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I have seven years of experience in clinical social work, primarily assisting clients with adjustment to challenging transitions in life. Much of my experience has been with clients who are living with serious illnesses, facing difficult decisions, learning how to manage anxiety and depression, and/or coping with grief and loss. Personally, I am a recent cancer survivor and work in an oncology clinic. My experience in both of these roles has reinforced my belief in a whole health approach to treatment. The mind and body are inextricably connected and both must be given attention and cared for to maintain balance. My therapeutic approach is client centered, strengths based, and solution focused. I help clients set reasonable expectations to meet their personally identified goals. I value the therapeutic relationship and strive for my clients to not only feel heard by me, but to hear themselves clearly as well. Sometimes hearing ourselves is very difficult with the chatter of the stress and worry in our minds. I work to help clients gain clarity in their thoughts and alter less functional patterns of thinking, primarily drawing from mindfulness practice, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Hello and welcome. My name is Stephanie. I have been serving children, youth, and families in various professional settings for over 18 years. My skill set is diverse, and I believe in authenticity in practice, which involves tailoring treatment to meet each person’s unique needs. For 15 years, I was a dedicated Home-Based Therapeutic Service provider (HBTS) and Personal Assistance Services and Supports worker (PASS). In these roles, I supported children and teens with autism and other developmental abilities in achieving many different goals in many different settings. I became an expert in de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and behavioral therapy, including Applied Behavior Analysis. I also learned how to be a support system to caregivers and family members as they came to understand and accept a new diagnosis and subsequently, a new way of life. During graduate school, I interned at a middle school and Butler Psychiatric Hospital (each for one year). I focused my studies on clinical and therapeutic interventions. These experiences enabled me to refine my skills in different professional settings and learn new approaches to treatment, including psychiatric care/medication management, couples and group counseling, and trauma/grief counseling. In 2012, I graduated from Rhode Island College with a master’s degree in social work. I practiced clinical social work in Rhode Island for over 10 years and dedicated my time to Early Intervention and K-5 public education. I became an expert in play therapy, family therapy, and assessment and evaluation. My favorite part of these experiences was learning about different family systems/structures and child-rearing/educational practices, and empowering all of these individuals to reach their goals/fullest potential. In 2021, I acquired my K-12 School Guidance Counselor Certification and moved to my birth state where I have been working as a School Counselor for an online/Virtual Academy in southern AZ. I come to BetterHelp with the desire to continue “helping” people through the comfort and convenience of the virtual world. I place high value in establishing and maintaining positive therapeutic relationships with my clients. I will provide a non-judgmental, “safe space” for you to (1) reflect upon your own thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behavior, (2) learn to manage work, social and/or familial dynamics/conflicts, (3) process and/or prepare for change in your life, and/or (4) work to accomplish your own ideas and goals as you see fit. Your input and feedback will also be important in our journey together to ensure that our sessions are always tailored to best meet your needs. I wish that everyone could see their strengths and the capactiy that they possess to overcome life’s challenges. I look forward to collaborating with you. Remember, this is your unique healing journey...YOU deserve this. Best Regards, Stephanie (she/her)

I am Arielle Bryant, a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Michigan. I have over 5 years of experience working with clients’ concerns such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, parenting issues, grief and loss, life changes, and self-esteem, among others. Primarily, I’ve utilized individual, couple, and family therapy modalities in community mental health. I tailor goal-setting to each client utilizing a variety of skill sets from Cognitive Behavioral, Attachment-Based, Client-Centered, and Solution-Focused therapies. I chose therapy as a career because I genuinely enjoy helping individuals improve and develop healthy relationships with themselves and the world around them. I chose Marriage and Family Therapy, specifically, because MFTs take a holistic perspective to health care; they are concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families. In marriage and family therapy, the unit of treatment isn't just the person - even if only a single person is present - it is the set of relationships in which the person is embedded. Not only do I want to support you in building healthy relationships with your loved ones, but also with yourself. Metaphorically, my job is to hold the flashlight in your life so that not only can you examine what needs to be done, but also so that your hands are free to do the work necessary to create the life you want. I believe that everyone does the best the can with what they think they have at the moment. We are all capable of growth and change when we have the support and room to do so. My goal is to provide a safe environment and accountability for you to explore what you really want for yourself. My therapeutic style is strength-based and collaborative. This means you are the expert in your life and my role is to support you in reaching your goals. With me, you can expect patience, kindness, warmth, humor, and unconditional positive regard. I will hold space for you and make sure you see and celebrate all of your wins, including this one. Your reaching out is an acknowledgment that things can be better and an expression of hope that they WILL GET BETTER. So, thank you for your bravery and trust. Thank you for showing up. Together we can do great things. I’m ready when you are.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Bradford?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Bradford therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in RI, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 02808 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists around or in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Bradford counselor?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Bradford therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn how to best help and support you.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Bradford licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Bradford counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Bradford, Rhode Island can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Bradford has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
