Congratulations on taking the first step! Sometimes just getting in the door can be the hardest part. In reality, you have already been through the hardest part, you lived through the pains of your life. With help in counseling, all that remains is removing the clutter that was left behind and entering into wholeness and freedom. I see counseling as an exciting time of self discovery, freedom, and personal growth. Coming to counseling is a sign of hope. Working together in the therapeutic alliance, this hope will increase as you find your core self and take hold of the life you were meant to live, full of freedom and passion for what you want out of life. While there may be difficult areas of life to confront in counseling, freedom will come as these areas are brought into the light and processed with gentle care in the therapeutic alliance. I see the therapeutic alliance as extremely important. My task as the counselor is to work myself out of a job. I do this by empowering you with tools that spring board you into deeper paths of self discovery that you can do on your own at any hour of the day or night. My legal name is Sabrina Hanson, but I go by Veronica. I received a Bachelor Degree's in Science in Social Work at Florida State University in 2002 and a Master's Degree in Art in Mental Health Counseling at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio in 2016. I am licensed in Texas and Ohio. In Texas, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. In Ohio, I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor. I am specialized in addiction and trauma. I have received training in the following areas: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Instinctual Trauma Response Model, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Nutrition and Mental Health, Telehealth, and Addiction Counseling. These areas of expertise will be explained in greater depth as time goes on so it is okay if you don't know exactly what they are. For now, simply know that I have lots of training to help care for you in the areas of trauma, anxiety, and addiction. While I am an eclectic counselor, the primary treatment approach I will be using is Internal Family Systems Therapy. This treatment approach will help you to learn how to access your core self and look at your emotions and thoughts in ways that will empower you to become the person you always wanted to be. It is an evidence based treatment approach that has been statistically helpful for countless people with varying types of emotional struggles. It is my mission as a counselor to work toward helping the whole person, mind, body, and soul. This is the reason I have been trained in so many different areas. I am continuously striving to be equipped with more tools that can help in the process of achieving greater freedom and wholeness. With each new modality that I learn, I have sought to receive counseling myself in these areas so that I can better explain these approaches to clients. The most important thing I would say to you as the client is that feedback is important. While I may have excellent training and a heart of gold to help you, you know yourself better than I do. I need you to help me help you. As you tell me through feedback what is helpful and not I can then personally tailor the treatment approach to meet your needs. I have many tools in my tool bag. Together we will find the tools that your particular person benefits from the most. This is the therapeutic alliance. Together we will go into the dark areas of your life that you want healed from and come to greater healing and wholeness. The journey will be taken together. You are not alone in this journey. My goal isn't to get you to a place of healing alone, it is to get you to a place where you thrive. I am excited to go on this journey with you and to get to know you better. For now, I encourage you to take a breathe, rest in the knowledge that the hardest work is already behind you, and know that you are capable of freedom and fulfillment in life.

“Why is this happening to me?” “How can I trust myself to make the right decisions?” “Will I always be a people pleaser instead of looking out for myself?” “Why can’t I be happy right now?” Are questions like these consuming your thoughts? Do you often experience feelings of helplessness and hopelessness? Sometimes we need guidance to get past emotional turmoil and back on a path towards contentment in our lives. Therapy can help with navigating through life’s problems by setting and accomplishing goals to help you return to good mental health with personal and/or professional growth. Therapy is an inviting place where every single part of you is welcome, even the parts that are uncomfortable to share. You are encouraged to allow yourself to experience any emotion or thought freely. Hello and welcome! I am from the great state of Texas and have been an accomplished psychotherapist for 30 years. I have a broad range of clinical expertise in assisting individuals, couples and families. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, depression, relationship dynamics, coping with grief and loss, as well as other equally important issues. It is my genuine hope that every client journeys along their therapeutic path with a renewed sense of understanding and self-appreciation. This is truly my life’s calling and it is wonderful to be able to watch people make positive changes in their lives. Throughout the years, I have been able to build rapport quickly with compassion and empathy towards my clients who have ranged in ages from 4 to 104. I have found that utilizing an integrative therapeutic approach is beneficial to meet each individual’s unique needs. This treatment, along with a wealth of life experience, offers a more flexible and inclusive perspective to assist in navigating through unhealthy lifestyle patterns. The first step is the most difficult and here you are! Getting started can be pretty scary — to talk to someone you don't know about things that make you uncomfortable, sad, angry, embarrassed, or even overjoyed — but I would like to reassure you that this process is here to help you grow. If you seek to have a voice in the direction of your therapy and view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership, then I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and begin your healing journey. Tell me your story.

14 years of experience offering psychology treatment

I am a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) with over 14 years experience working with adults and teens. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, adjustment to life transitions, relationship issues, depression, motivation, self esteem and confidence. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. I provide support, guidance and accountability with kindness and humor. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or significant life changes, making the decision to ask for help takes courage and is the hardest and most important step. Asking for support can be the most difficult part of the journey, so well done for making the decision to put your mental health first! My belief is that the counseling process is a collaborative partnership between therapist and client(s). Working together, we will explore current concerns and develop realistic goals. My theory of counseling is Adlerian, which is based on the notion that people are responsible for their behavior, thoughts, and feelings. As an Adlerian counselor, it is my belief that each of us is searching for significance and belonging. Based upon early experiences in life, we develop ways to strive for this significance. Over the course of time, however, we may find that some of these constructed methods are no longer helpful. As a result, we find ourselves discouraged and disconnected from ourselves and others in various aspects of life. In counseling, we will explore areas including your early experiences, belief system, personality style, and coping mechanisms to identify and understand what exactly is no longer working for you. We may focus upon thoughts, feelings and/or behaviors, and a variety of techniques may be introduced. Based upon your insights, we will work together to identify an action-oriented approach for you to achieve your goals. If you have any questions regarding therapy, please feel free to ask.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Adrian area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Adrian therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Adrian due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Adrian?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Adrian therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Adrian counselor?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Adrian licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Adrian counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Adrian, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Adrian has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
