Amanda Wentz
I have been a therapist since 2014 when I graduated with my masters degree in social work from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. After graduating with my bachelors in social work in 2012 and working for a year at a homeless shelter, I knew there was more that I wanted to be doing, which led me back to school to continue my education. I finished all of my clinical hours for licensure in April of 2018, which is when I became an LCSW. I have worked at three different outpatient mental health centers during my time of practice, all which served different ages, diagnoses, and stages of life. The majority of my experience comes in working with individuals learning to cope with anxiety, stress, depression, addictions, trauma, abuse, parenting issues, life transitions, relational issues and grief and loss. I may be the “therapist,” but no one knows you like you do, and that is why I make it a priority to make sure we use my expertise, as well as yours to make sure we get you where you want to be! I traditionally come from a strengths based background/approach for this reason. I have taken certified courses in Trauma Focused CBT, and in treating Anxiety. I can’t promise I won’t respectfully try to challenge you throughout this process, but you have the power to choose what feels right for you. I understand that this is a difficult spot to be in, and that the thought of needing “therapy” can sometimes seem unnecessary, but I really hope that you can look at this like a partnership where I can provide you with certain tools that will help you on your journey. There is no such thing as a stupid question, a ridiculous thought, or a reason to be embarrassed. Everyone handles stress and life transitions differently, and if it weren’t for that we wouldn’t have the uniqueness that helps us all accelerate at different things. I am honored to get to hear your story, and to be your sounding board at this time of transition.

Hi! I am a bilingual and bicultural psychotherapist that sees this profession more as a calling than a job. I love helping people understand that they can have healthier and happier lives if they invest a little bit of time in understanding their way of thinking and how this impact their emotions and behaviors. I have extensive training in trauma, depression, anxiety and other mood and personality diagnosis as well as grief and substance abuse. Being able to reach both cultures: North American and Hispanic, has also opened my understanding of other relationship problems in couples and families when language and culture are barriers in their interactions. I see every person as individual and I adapt my training to their individual needs. Counseling is not for the sick, but for the ones that believe in change. What you will receive in therapy is unconditional acceptance since that is the main point of my life's philosophy. I look forward to start helping you! Should we start?

Carly Andrews
I graduated with my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. During my Masters internship I worked within a PCP clinic providing integrated behavioral consultation to patients who came in complaining of physical ailments that held roots in behavioral management. The mind and the body are one and equally impact one another in wellness. This insight greatly impacted my perspective when working with other populations as well. After I acquired my LPC certification, I spent my time working with individuals who experienced more severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar disorders, major depression, and mixed psychotic features. This experience further facilitated observations of mind-body co-morbidity, systems dysfunction, and environmental stressors. Because of these observations, my approach is very holistic (looking at the "whole" of the person and "whole" system by which the person exists) and is person centered. In terms of therapeutic approaches, there is no "one size fits all" therapeutic approach, and thus, I try my best to get a sense of personality and perceptions before diving into technique. Sometimes I use the help of free assessment tools to gain a better picture of the person as well, if the individual is willing to engage in this way. I always want those in sessions to be an active participant in their own treatment planning, and for this reason usually utilize a collaborative approach to therapy and direction. People describe me as dedicated, intuitive, down to earth, and understanding. We all get lost sometimes, it's part of life. I will do my best to help you form the best map to get you to wherever you are headed. There are several paths to the same destination, but the path that works best for you can only be decided BY you. So lets figure out which path that is, together.
Dorothy Carskadon
Please call me Dorrie. I have been a counselor for 24 years primarily working with Veterans and their families. I am excited to be on Better Help to use my clinical experience on this online platform. I like to use worksheets and journals to get to know you when we are not doing sessions. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. I use positive psychology, cognitive behavioral approach and emotional literacy to guide you through your issues. Positive psychology helps you to explore yourself through recognizing the positives in your life and accentuating them. The cognitive behavior approach helps you look closely at the decisions you make and the emotional literacy approach looks at how your emotions effect your decisions. I call myself a resource counselor because I will give you lots of material - handouts, worksheets, and internet links - to review and hopefully apply to your life. I am Christian and believe using the Bible that expresses wisdom and encourages love. God made each of us unique and "God saw that it was good." As an experienced therapist, I will adjust my style to your needs. My goal is to help you enjoy life.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Plains, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Plains has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
