**Must schedule through therapist to avoid errors and double-bookings. Thank you! I am a psychotherapist who specializes in addiction, shame, trauma, and helping others learn the art of self-compassion. I utilize Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to facilitate a large majority of my individual and group sessions. This action-oriented framework is congruent with my belief system and core values. Instead of expending energy resisting or denying their emotions toward a difficult concept, it encourages one to accept these emotions as an appropriate response to certain situations and to move forward regardless. This eases the conflict between how a person believes they are “supposed to” feel and how they realistically feel under circumstances to which they are exposed. I am a trained practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. (EMDR) This adaptive integrative processing approach uses bilateral stimulation and lateral eye movement to strengthen positive neural networks within one’s brain. It helps rescript and establish positive connections about a previously-held negative belief. It reinforces the positive pathway and helps the individual cope with the memory while applying new, positive beliefs about a negative situation. Using a holistic approach is essential in my practice. A person is not their diagnosis. A person is not their addiction. A person is a complex individual who deserves the care and respect that I would hope be shown toward myself or someone that is close to me. Working through shame is a process and a journey that is best traversed with compassion. Contact me to schedule. I have limited availability at this time. Thank you.

Hello! My name is Paula Peterson. I have been a practicing counselor since 2007. I am licensed professional counselor in Wisconsin and Clinical Mental Health Counselor in New Hampshire. I am grateful that you are reading my profile and if you connect to what I am sharing, please contact me. It takes courage and humility to seek out help. Great job noticing your need and taking the step to get your need met!! I chose the counseling field because of seeing the power of being vulnerable with the struggles of our lives and being cared for in that vulnerability. I know that our mental health is just as important as taking care of the other aspects of ourselves. I obtained a degree in Mental Health Counseling from University of Wisconsin-Stout. I have practiced in a day treatment and outpatient setting. I have worked successfully with adults and adolescents. I bring to my practice the belief that we as humans have in us, an innate ability to work through life's struggles. I seek to tap into that ability within our counseling relationship. I have experience working with trauma, anxiety, self worth and self esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, and anger management. I also enjoy working with addictions, depression and spiritual struggles. Lastly, if what I have shared fits for you, please reach out. I look forward to getting to know you and walking with you at this time in your journey. If what I have shared does not fit, I hope you are able to find a good fit for you and your needs.

Hello and welcome! Something in your life brought you here in your search for help. I want you to know that you’ve come to a good place. I know how it takes wisdom and courage to seek out counseling support. I want to help you explore what is possible for you. Each of us can tap into our resilience and creativity even during the most stressful of times. I know too that sometimes we just need someone to talk to, who can listen without judgement. I am here for that. Update on 9/1/2021. Hello. I am updating my profile and mentions of what I consider my skill set. A growing opinion in clinical psychology is that no particular intervention is better than any other, and that the most important predictor of therapeutic success is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I agree with that predictor. I have found that the best combo within therapy is relational, narrative and somatic. Relational in that the basis of a successful therapeutic experience is dependent on a healthy, skillful and genuine relationship between the client and the therapist. A good match results in good therapy. The therapist must be rooted in principles, boundaries and have a relatable skill set. Compassion and a genuine interest in the client must be the primary motive for the therapist. And the client must feel a genuine connection with the therapist. Narrative in that through the client sharing of their story and experiences and practicing inquiry and attention they can heal and transform painful circumstances and negative habitual patterns. Narrative includes the stories and assumptions we tell ourselves, so those are also part of the inquiry. Somatic means the conversation and work is embodied. That the context always returns to and is understood through one’s physical-emotional experiences. CBT can be a branch of all these, especially when it comes to inquiry practices. Again, all this relies on a genuine and authentic relationship between the client and therapist. A necessary vulnerability and receptivity to oneself and the other. I have been engaging with people as a therapist for 40 years. And I am still as enthused and dedicated to this relationship. I continue to learn through my clients, as well as through attending various trainings and teachings. I am deeply grateful to work with you and believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a life-long benefit. (I always claim that my therapist saved my life. In truth, our relationship gave me the means to save myself). I have recently taken more training in somatic experiencing, awareness and breath practices that help with personal insight and well-being. I look forward to exploring these with you. However, you lead the sessions not me; our conversation and explorations are determined by you and what you are wanting to experience. Here is a little about me and how I would assist you: I have a Masters in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with over 3 decades of working as a therapist both face-to-face and online. My therapeutic style involves helping you to gain personal insight, simple strategies, and tools that you can use immediately to make positive choices and movement in your life. I consider you the captain of the ship, where I am the navigator, so, – you tell me where you want to go and I come up with several ways for you to consider, to get where there. You will always direct the session; I am here to help you discover the best internal and outward route to take to get to where you want. I have also authored several books on living a healthy and fulfilling life, healing from trauma, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to well-being, where I introduce simple tools to living a fulfilling life. Much of my work is about living life from the inside out – and how our emotions, beliefs, past traumas and attitude influence our outward and present day experience. I also use an educational approach with references to other resources that may help you, such as books, movies, on-line resources. We don’t just sit and talk. I love to provide you with simple, usable tools wherever possible that help you between sessions. We can practice these together and then you can see how they may benefit you in your daily life. I rely on these same practices to help me live a fulfilling and healthy life too. I too have relied on therapy, books and mentors to get me through challenging times. Most importantly, we are going to make sure we are making progress on your therapeutic intentions that you have for yourself. In that way, we are in this together. You will experience a true connection to me as your therapist. I am here to guide you, encourage you, possibly even challenge you if I feel you are unknowingly allowing obstacles to stand in your way. Greetings! I'm Rebecca, a licensed psychologist with more than 5 years experience in private practice and 10 years experience providing counseling. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, legal problems, and personality disorders. I also helped many people who have experienced physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. My practice is quite diverse, as I enjoy learning and growing in different areas of psychology. My approach to therapy incorporates various theoretical orientations, but with underlying Rogerian principles of client centered treatment. What does that mean? Rogers highlighted the therapeutic relationship as a fundamental key to therapy. Values include empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence/authenticity. Therefore, initially in therapy I strive to get to know you, the client. Moreover, I want to learn about your goals for therapy, and how we can collaboratively reach those goals. Based on your goals, I incorporate applicable theoretical orientations such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which explores the way one’s thoughts and feelings impact their behavior; or a similar approach, rational emotive therapy, which identifies self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenges the rationality of those feelings, and replaces them with healthier, more productive beliefs. I also support behavioral activation, which involves the client regularly scheduling prosocial, enjoyable activities that facilitate coping and improve mood. Our work together will involve both sessions and some homework for you to complete between sessions. I look forward to working together!

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. My graduate school training was from Winona State University in Winona, MN. I worked in a private practice mental health agency there in Winona for three years, in addition to serving in a residential treatment facility assisting adults in recovery from mental health crises back to independent living. I am currently meeting with out-patient clients in a new counseling agency in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I have worked with people from all walks of life facing difficult and unexpected challenges, causing a variety of mental health issues. I work with a Person-Centered approach and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, along with Strength-Based modalities. I like to identify strengths in people and help them grow. The therapeutic relationship between client and counselor offers a strong foundation to assist clients in recovering balance in life and the freedom to move ahead on a more peaceful journey. I know life can be rough at times, but with help, it can also be better! Some may be desiring a Christian-based therapy, and that is also an option we can incorporate.

I am a clinical psychologist with 30+ years experience providing mental health services to the people of Wisconsin. In this time I have worked in large medical centers, psychiatric hospitals, community mental health clinics, and private practice. My familiarity with virtual (online) service began in the early 2000s and has evolved along with the technology over the past two decades. I have connected with literally thousands of people across the age spectrum, from adolescents to adults to the elderly. My expertise covers an extensive array of problem areas including depression/exhaustion, anxiety/worry, ADHD/autism, self-esteem, life-changes, work/career issues, family relationships, and much more. My clinical approach is customized to best address your unique needs, and draws on the techniques of diverse theoretical backgrounds ranging from cognitive-behavioral to interpersonal/humanistic. My style of interaction is inclusive, non-judgemental and conversational; punctuated with frequent illustrative metaphors and humorous observations. While I have not worked with clients who are BRCA 1+, I personally am BRCA 1+. If you know what this is, you know it can be a very emotional and confusing journey. I went through the diagnosis, consultations on preventative care, treatment options, and ultimately made the best choice for my situation and my family. If you are a carrier of the BRCA 1 gene, or know someone who is, and would like to receive therapy from a therapist who has personal experience, I believe I could be a helpful contact. I am willing to discuss and share my decisions but the purpose of therapy would not be for me to tell you what to do. It is a decision you must make for yourself, but I would be happy to help by navigating the numerous emotions (grief, loss, identity, depression, anger, etc.) that may come up in your journey.

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Lohrville licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Lohrville counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Lohrville, Wisconsin can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Lohrville has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
