Hi! I received a Bachelor's Degree in Education/Biblical Studies from Southeastern Bible College (Birmingham, Alabama) and a Master's Degree in Agency & Community Counseling from the University of Montevallo (Montevallo, Alabama). I am also certified by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling as a Supervising Counselor to provide supervision for those seeking full licensure. I am a wife to my wonderful husband, Don. I have two children - a very loyal son and a daughter who now lives in Heaven - and three gorgeous granddaughters. I am a Christian and am active in my local church. I enjoy writing, cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, & playing with my grandchildren. I have over 25 years experience in the Mental Health field, having worked in a variety of settings including private practice, intensive out-patient treatment for those with severe mental illness and chemical dependency, wilderness program for troubled teens, and outpatient services for children/adolescent/families issues. I have certification in Trauma Counseling. I work with all ages, regardless of sex, race, or economic status. I have provided in-home therapy for at-risk families, and have had extensive training in working with children/adolescents in multiple situations. Areas of specialty include: pre-marital/marital issues, chronic pain/illness, chemical dependency, family dysfunction, educational/ vocational attainment, dealing with trauma/abuse from the past, and grief & loss. My goals in counseling are: (1) to walk along the journey with someone to assist them in knowing who they are, and learning to like and accept who they are; (2) to assist people in forming meaningful relationships, devoid of abuse or manipulation; (3) to help people form short-term and long-term goals and to ascertain the steps needed to obtain those goals; (4) to provide services in an atmosphere that fosters compassion and empathy in order to help the client feel safe and comfortable at all times. I would count it a privilege to assist you in accomplishing your goals.

My counseling philosophy is If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward. –Martin Luther King, Jr. The thought of assisting and helping others has been a driving force instilled within me since childhood. I am an outgoing, down to earth person that does not meet a stranger. I am a firm believer that there are no “cookie cutter” solutions to the counseling process as we are all created differently and must be treated as such. My therapeutic strengths are my tenacious and “real world” approaches to counseling, offering simple and clear interventions. My educational journey began at the prestigious Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL and concluded with the great Troy University. During that journey I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Juvenile Delinquency and a minor in Sociology, and then secured a Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology focusing in Clinical Mental Health. I have over fifteen years of experience working with youth and families in residential, non-traditional educational, and outpatient counseling settings. I look forward to assisting and helping each client work toward their therapeutic goals. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, & parenting issues. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
