Hello and welcome. My name is Tara and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Arizona. Counseling any person, no matter where they have come from, or what challenges they are struggling with, is my passion. I enjoy helping people achieve what they desire in this life. Whether it is to have a better marriage, learn how to deal with depression, less anxiety with every new situation that arises, or parenting struggles, I can help. I love helping people to be the very best versions of themselves and giving them the tools to help with varying hurdles in life. Life can be so tough, and seeking counseling is a very brave first step and I am so grateful you came here. We all go through hills and valleys in life, but it's so much better to go through those valleys when you have the right tools in which to deal with the tough times. Life is a gift. Counseling is a gift and I hope to be able to help you with your journey. A little about me. I grew up a military kid and was able to travel the world with my family, which came with some wonderful experiences and also some challenges of having to adjust quickly to different settings. Along the way I met a lot of great people and had the opportunity to learn family dynamics, and cultures from a very young age. I am grateful to have had to change and move throughout my childhood so that I could end up in this field where I can truly help so many different kinds of people, no matter their background, or what struggles they are going through. I received my bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. I then went on to receive my Masters degree from Argosy University in Phoenix, Arizona. My counseling approach is mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused brief therapy. I believe we all have the ability to get where we want to go, but sometimes we need a little help along the way.

9 years defines my experience providing dual diagnosis mental health related counseling services to adolescents, adults and elders in a variety of inpatient/outpatient services in the criminal justice system in conjunction with integrated clinical health systems services. This experience gave me a new direction and way of life consisting of personal growth and change I would like to share with you. Our goal is to share my experiences with those who seek to enhance their level of personal growth and change. Serving adolescents, adults, elders, couples, families and groups with my training in an eclectic variety of treatment modalities, the actual counseling approach with a given client is determined by your preference and personal goals. With the hope that your goals will center around the self discovery of personal strengths and yielding an increase in self esteem you will realize that your integrity is the most valuable asset about yourself. Upon this discovery you will be able to share with others as you become an extension of the counseling process. My theory is when people have hope and learn to challenge and replace irrational thoughts, beliefs and attitudes they create the biology of courage. By normalizing stress people are free to experience change. In Relationship focused therapy the counselor will identify strengths by asking family members to take note of the family dynamics they want to maintain The counselor will look for exceptions to the problem by asking couples to recount times when the problem did not occur and to account for why, to formulate a solution and highlight strengths. Couples will review worksheets and experience discoveries by working together to identify strengths and cultural differences. In my experience within the past 9 years couples will experience cohesion within the family unit in which they will find new meaning and purpose. Couples will set goals that identifies a renewed value driven direction as they discover what they want to work towards and what is really important to them. At Franciccan University I was made aware and adapted my Christian basesd counseling approach to center around the Eleven Human Emotions that describe the pleasure, appetite or human emotions. The goal to acquire the good through Love Desire and Joy and to avoid the evil of Hate Aversion and Sadness. These emotions make up the heart or inner core of mans emotional life. For difficult issues it is wise to recognize the Utilitatian or assertive emotions of Hope Courage and Anger versus Despair, Sadness and Fear. These Emotions give us the energy necessary to overcome obstacles that separate us from the things that are hard to get and what we really want. Clients are encouraged to engage in each component of the Eleven Human Emotions that will give them clarity and a renewed realtionship with the Holy Spirit thus gaining compassion for themselves and others. What do you have to lose and you have everything to gain by trying!

The helping profession which is often referred to as therapy or counseling has been my life-long goal. My desire has made me a patient, attentive, and non-judgmental listener and has shaped my approach to understanding clients’ needs better. I am also supportive and seek positivity in every situation presented. I thrive to make clients feel safe including even reluctant clients to find their own way during treatment but also help clients to learn how to take personal responsibility to take charge of their behavior. I facilitate, encourage, empower, and help the client discover their potential to overcome barriers to treatment and find solutions and subsequently heal. I utilize approaches that are tailored to the client dependent on the issues, goals, and outcomes. Clients must be willing to participate to reach enlightenment to help them understand themselves in a new way and break from their own poor mindset and maladaptive behaviors. I hold a master’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health counseling and am a licensed professional counselor in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey with 10 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and families. I am a multicultural counselor who believes that endogenous factors can control individual behavior. Hence, when clients realize and acknowledge the inside factor, it eventually can bring about healing. That is, I am not there to prove my client wrong but help them find their own way out of their self-entanglement or damaging belief. No one approach fits all clients. The therapeutic alliance that is the client-therapist relationship will become the greatest change agent-Trust, genuineness, and participation.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about licensed therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Miami area can be found below:

How does the cost of an in-person therapist compare to BetterHelp?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Miami due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • With a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • With therapists: $100-300
  • With a clinician: $100

While many psychologists in Miami may not take health insurance, some in the state of Arizona may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Arizona you can expect significantly more affordable options, with sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks).

Is BetterHelp right for me?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of therapy in Miami is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in AZ, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 85539 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists around or in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Miami therapist?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn how to best help and support you.

Should I find a Miami therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Miami licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is therapy worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Miami, Arizona can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Counseling with an online Miami provider

Do therapists judge you in therapy?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
