With over two decades of experience in the counseling field, I am a seasoned and devoted professional currently serving at Better Help. My diverse and comprehensive background includes roles such as a Special Education Teacher, Psychology Instructor, Executive Director, Lead Therapist at an outpatient drug treatment facility, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor managing a Transition Caseload, and a Disability Services Counselor, where I provided assistance with ADA Accommodations for students with impairments. I then advanced to Troy University where I obtained a Master of Science degree in Counseling & Human Development. Further deepening my expertise, I completed a Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Auburn University. As a testament to my dedication and competence, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the states of Texas, Colorado, and Arizona, along with being a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) recognized across all 50 states. My counseling practice extends to a wide range of specialty areas such as ADD/ADHD, Anxiety and Panic disorders, Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bullying, Cultural and Ethical Issues, Depression, End of Life discussions, Isolation and Loneliness, Personality Disorders, Pregnancy and Childbirth, Prejudice and Discrimination, Self-Harm, counseling for survivors of Rape and Violent Crime, Trauma, and Workplace challenges. Over the years, I have honed my skills in several clinical approaches to therapy, including Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Arizona. I have been working in the field of behavioral health since 2006 and specifically as a counselor since 2012. I've worked with clients of all ages who were facing challenges in both urban and rural settings. I aim to be accepting, compassionate, and nonjudgmental no matter what you are going through. The last thing anyone needs when they are struggling is more shame. (We tend to do an awfully good job of shaming ourselves, don't we?!) I believe in a strengths-based approach. I will work with you to identify your positive qualities, passions, and natural supports and use them to assist you in your current difficulties. You are stronger than you know! :) I can give a lot of practical suggestions and "homework" -- or I'm happy to just listen. What I won't do is tell you what to do (unless it's a safety issue). I'm pretty down to earth and practical. I try to stay away from clinical jargon and just speak plainly. I do think it's helpful to understand how our brains and bodies react to events in our lives. One of my core beliefs is that "there is nothing wrong with you." It's been my experience that feeling better is often a matter of practicing new skills and habits, such as self-compassion; gratitude; setting healthy boundaries; connecting with others; or learning appropriate ways to soothe yourself when distressed. Of course, there are also times when more services, such as medication or substance abuse treatment, are appropriate and we can discuss that together. I'm here to support and encourage you in your efforts to change. I'm generally available for live sessions Monday/Wednesday/Fridays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. I look forward to connecting with you!

Hello! My name is Adam Hewitt, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Missouri. I have been with BetterHelp since 2021 after spending several years in private practice as a mental health therapist and substance abuse counselor. I've always been passionate about helping people overcome their challenges. When it comes to therapy, I like to keep things friendly and honest. I will never talk down to you or make you feel like a burden. I find it incredibly rewarding to see the joy on people's faces when they realize just how strong they can be, whether it's facing their fears, overcoming addictions, or taking control of their lives. As for my therapeutic approach, I focus on your strengths. I believe that everyone has innate abilities that can help them achieve their life goals, and it is my job to help you find yours. I take a mindfulness based approach, and am very sensitive to how technology and culture intersect to make our lives more complicated. I've worked significantly with people dealing with trauma, substance and gaming addiction, and systemic oppression. My aim is to help individuals become empowered to go out into the world feeling in charge of their lives. I don't consider myself to work for an agency; I'm here because of you. My promise is to let you take the lead to make the changes in your life that are meaningful to you. My hope is that my openness and positive attitude will make you feel trusted and inspired to live the life you deserve.
