I have worked with adults, teens, couples and families for seven years; I specialize in facilitating people’s own insights and resilience to access more resourced and contented lives. Living in California can be exhausting with its high paced culture; allow me to work with you on achieving insight(s) about the origins and solutions to anxiety, substance abuse, and dissatisfaction with relationships and work. With my background as a yoga instructor, meditation practitioner, and competitive runner and triathlete, I can join you in bringing awareness to maladaptive coping strategies. I strive to normalize and validate your experiences! I started my career in addiction counseling, via Hazelden Betty Ford's graduate program, and I then received a counseling psychology masters from Palo Alto University; I have been working for a large hospital as a psychotherapist for the past six years. My specialty is working with addiction of all kinds. With two decades of sobriety from alcohol and drugs, I can assist you and your loved ones in getting relief from anger, restlessness, and grief. I can support you in recovering from bereavement after losing a beloved person or animal. Recovery has varied approaches; let’s find yours and develop new skills. I commend you for channeling your strength and wisdom into positive action. Asking for assistance and implementing new life skills is not easy; "we cannot fix a problem with the same mind that created it," Einstein is known to have said. Most everyone deals with shame, guilt, and self-criticism, and now’s your time to achieve a respite from the human condition. Congratulations on taking your first step in realizing your potential! I look forward to working with you.

Dr. Tabitha Thompson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who finds value in helping others see the strengths in themselves and achieve their personal and professional goals. In working with clients, the experience is a partnership in which Dr. Thompson works collaboratively with client to ensure the outcome is in the best interest of all involved stakeholders. Her passion is using relationship building techniques to work with people of varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Some of her personal values that influence lifelong decisions and clinical approaches are honesty and accountability. She truly believe that honesty should be the primary response for all situations that arise. With honesty and integrity, she is able model the exact behavior for others. There are two Gandhi quotes that most correlate with her personal philosophy and therapeutic style. They are “the difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems” and “happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” These are profound statements that encompass her personal values of honesty, work ethic and accountability as it relates to clinical guidance. As she continue to develop herself as a transformational leader and clinical therapist, Dr. Thompson continues to make every effort to improve in the eight emotional intelligence competencies including developing others, teamwork, collaboration, organized awareness, building bonds, visionary leadership, empathy, respect and open communication to create a positive and supportive learning environment. Her human relations approach is to utilize effective communication with all involved parties. This includes making sure all relevant parties are informed of all necessary information and time is permitted to discuss all pertinent opinions. An important part of communication is not only sharing your opinion but also being able to listen attentively to others’ viewpoints. This model best describes her ongoing attempts to use effective communication and a positive attitude to fulfill the client’s goals related to therapy and the best possible outcomes for all clients. In any given situation, clients should also expect Dr. Thompson to listen attentively to their opinions and always try to understand all angles of the situation. She will always advocate for the right decision to be made for the well-being and safety of all clients as well as provide opportunities for further education along the way. She is dedicated to developing client specific treatment plans and working collaboratively to create realistic expectations for clients so long term goals can be achieved. The selection of a psychotherapist is an intensely personal private intimate decision. Therapy is about one thing: focused communication. With the appropriate modification of language, we can think differently. If we think differently, we can change behaviors. And if we consistently change behaviors, they can become long-term, therapeutic, healthy change. Yes, that journey begins with the first step. My journey began last century with graduate school and licensure. Spent many years working with our incarcerated brothers and sisters. Their needs are real and varied. Being on the “outside” doesn’t mean you aren’t still incarcerated. Spent over a dozen years working with a Native American community. So many needs and so little time. A very special time in my life working with all ages, all needs, often through the assistance of an interpreter. From that chapter, I moved into substance abuse eventually becoming clinical director at several programs. Sobriety like therapy is a day-to-day process and there is nothing wrong with that. Perfection is not possible but excellence is attainable! Lastly, as a former first responder, spent over a decade assisting that community with critical incident stress. Actually, earned a doctorate with the research we all generated together. Nothing quite prepares you for that profession and the significant costs it exacts but if you would just like the opportunity to be, in a kind of ministry of presence, that is one of the reasons I am here . . . And for all, sometimes absolutely the best therapy comes from being with someone in a special moment without saying a word. So, how bout it? Even if it is not me, will you continue your search and seek? Why? Because there are some people on this Earth who do not need to meet you, be in a relationship with you, who know without a shadow of a doubt you are special! Unique! You are worthy! And although it may not be fashionable, will tell you are loved! Enjoy your journey and take that step and just maybe our paths will cross. Looking forward to it . . .
