Hi There! I am a dual licensed professional counselor in both Florida and California State. My last twenty years of direct support positions working with a myriad of populations and ages has included counseling adolescents in high schools and foster care agencies, newly homeless, pregnant women in a non-profit agency (suffering from depression due to domestic violence), chronically mentally ill patients in hospital care, elderly clientele in an adult care facility, adults facing trauma and grief, and all ages on a crisis and text line. Through all these experiences I have been extremely humbled by so many people allowing me to enter their worlds. As a therapist, I utilize a person-centered approach using warmth, compassion, and and humor to understand each person I meet. I am especially attuned to those suffering loss or trauma, as I personally have lost two family members to depression. These losses have given me a special gift to help heal those around me and compel me to soften the anxiety, depression, or confusion of those who need it. I especially try to help people become more resilient in their lives since I have had to personally be this way and not to succumb to the hardships I have had to face. Rather than letting these hardships define me, I have wanted to connect with others and provide support for others facing life struggles. On a personal level, I am especially connected to nature and animals and have been an avid animal rescuer my entire life. I look forward to hearing YOUR story.

Dr. Lusa Hung
Hello there and welcome to BetterHelp! Thank you for reading about me and the work that I do. I am Dr. Lusa Hung and I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist serving clients who reside in California, Washington, and New York. I received my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree at Argosy University/Honolulu in 2005, with a specialization in Diversity. I have been a licensed psychologist since 2008. Psychology has always been a passion of mine in some shape or form. Helping people live their most vibrant and fulfilling lives with meaning and purpose is my aim. I have 12 years of clinical experience working with culturally diverse populations in international and domestic settings. I would describe my approach to be mindfulness-based with a blend of cognitive behavioral strategies, a person-centered stance, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. I have expertise treating a wide range of psychological and life challenges spanning the spectrum of depression, trauma, anxiety, life adjustments, grief and loss, relationship challenges, and improving health behaviors, serving people across the lifespan and in different clinical settings. I have served individuals in the U.S., China and Germany and have come to understand how universal and connected all human experiences are. At the same time, I also appreciate how each person has a unique way of living these shared experiences. I am mindful about any contributions from the individual's social-cultural background, taking time to see from that person's perspective and not my own assumptions. My clients are my biggest therapy teachers, helping me balance theory with what really works in real life. Not only do my clients learn from me, I also learn from them, both as my clients and as fellow human beings. Therapy is a dance between the client and the therapist, sometimes the client leads, sometimes they follow. The journey is not always pleasant or easy but with openness and courage, you will find that things will become more clear and you can then set your intention and take purposeful steps to live life in the way you actually want. I believe that the therapist can provide guidance, support and expertise within a unique and safe relationship and can shape the conversations to promote the changes that the client wants to make. I help people reframe challenging and often painful events in their lives so that not only does the frame change, so does the picture. Turning pain and loss into wisdom, guilt into gratitude, and shifting from avoidance to awareness are ways that can be helpful. I wish you luck on your journey of well-being. I hope I can be of help to you. Be well!

Hello and welcome. Deciding to reach out for support is a really important first step in the process of moving forward with your life. Working with a skilled therapist can give us an ability to see our lives from a different perspective which often leads to new and creative insights about how we get stuck, what we really want and how to get there from here. I have been a Social Worker for 14 years and a licensed psychotherapist since 2009, working in the fields of Treatment Foster Care, Substance Abuse Recovery, Community Mental Health and Private Practice. In addition to my professional training and experience, I have also been on my own path of personal healing and growth for almost 30 years. Over that time, probably the most effective tools I have found, both for myself and my clients, are the practices of Mindfulness and Self-Compassion. Mindfulness is a powerful method for getting to know ourselves, our minds and our stories better so we can see how often we get in our own ways and create “problems” which actually only exist in our heads. Self-Compassion is a practice of making friends with ourselves, being kind and accepting ourselves unconditionally, just as we are. Combining Mindfulness and Self-Compassion with other clinical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Hakomi (Mindfulness-based Body Centered Psychotherapy) can create a powerful set of tools for changing ourselves and moving towards the life we really want. Applying these wisely to our lives can profoundly impact our levels of inner peace and overall sense of well-being and safety in the world. While not all issues are amenable to quick fixes, I generally see clients begin to have new hope and optimism about their lives in fairly short order. Here’s a short poem which I feel expresses the value of practicing self-kindness and compassion: Self-Observation Without Judgment (Danna Faulds) Release the harsh and pointed inner voice. it's just a throwback to the past, and holds no truth about this moment. Let go of self-judgment, the old learned ways of beating yourself up for each imagined inadequacy. Allow the dialogue within the mind to grow friendlier, and quiet. Shift out of inner criticism and life suddenly looks very different. i can say this only because I make the choice a hundred times a day to release the voice that refuses to acknowledge the real me. What's needed here isn't more prodding toward perfection, but intimacy - seeing clearly, and embracing what I see. Love, not judgment, sows the seeds of tranquility and change. I look forward to having the opportunity of working with you to help increase your sense of happiness, contentment and general life satisfaction.

I am a licensed psychologist in California and Nevada with over 20 years of experience. I specialize in LGBTQIA issues, my pronouns are ‘he and him.’ I also have worked over 10 years in a psychiatric hospital where I gained expertise with dual diagnosis patients (substance abuse issues + mental health disorder). I was also fortunate enough to work in the adolescent unit of the hospital as well. I earned my Ph.D. from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I am also an educator to graduate students and provide supervision as they pursue their licenses. This helps keep me motivated to stay current with emerging trends in therapy. I mainly utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques as well as client-centered therapy. One of my favorite parts of conducting therapy is seeing diversity and being able to help those in all walks of life. I make no judgments and work hard to see things from the perspective of my clients. I see myself as a facilitator and I help my clients gain insight so they can tap into their strengths. Therapy is serious business, but I always like to use a bit of humor as appropriate. It is very important that everyone I work with feels valued and respected and I fully bring that to each and every session. Thank you for your time and I hope to work with you. Each of us was reverently and wonderfully made! But over the course of life many of us have been wounded with injuries that eyes can't see--soul wounds. Those wounds may come from absent or unloving caregivers, bullying, abuse, trauma, neglect, hateful words, injuries or illness, substance abuse, lack of safety, abandonment, rejection, etc. There are many ways a person can be wounded. Those wounds don't just go away, and over time they cause problems in our behavior, thinking, feelings, relationships, families and workplaces. We wonder why this anxiety just won't go away, or why we've sabotaged yet another relationship. We get ugly with the people we love, or feel so out-of-control we don't know what to do. We have unexplained illness and ailments, and the treatments (physical and mental) seem never ending. Yes, these are all symptoms of soul wounds. You are amazing because you have found incredible ways to cope with the difficult and even terrible circumstances you've faced in life! And the good news is that you don't have to live with those wounds forever. Hi. I'm Leah, and I would love to embark on a journey of healing with you. Together we will engage in creative and life-changing interventions, activities and encounters that will help you heal the wounds in your soul, and discover (or rediscover!) the unique and amazing purpose for which you were created! You were meant for so much more, and I would be honored to help you unlock your potential and finally live life to the fullest. I'm going to be honest with you, this is hard work; maybe the hardest work you've ever had to do, but in the end it will all be worth it. What are you waiting for? Let's get started! I am a spiritually integrated therapist and adhere to the American Association of Christian Counseling Code of Ethics, which can be found here: https://www.aacc.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/AACC-Code-of-Ethics-Master-Document.pdf

I am a Licensed Marriage and family therapist (LMFT). I have worked with individuals for over 8 years, both online and inpatient/outpatient community mental health settings. I have worked with various issues over the past 8 years and have a client-centered/person centered approach. I believe in providing a safe, welcoming, emphatic, and attentive environment for individuals to think, reflect, and grow. I have realized through previous feedback that this was helpful for people. I utilize an integrative therapy approach to support people achieve their goals and obtain relief. About me: ------------- I migrated from Bangladesh when I was 5 years old. I have experienced many transitions in my life and in my environments. I've gone through my own personal traumas from physical/emotional abuse, to bullying, to witnessing interpersonal violence, to other abuses that I have recovered from after going through my own journey of recovery. So, I definitely can understand and empathize with trauma. I've gone through the pressure of needing to excel and be the best at everything due to cultural/familial/parental expectations. I understand how it can be like to have dual identities, one at home and one outside. I have witnessed mental health in my family, communities and have gone through my own personal journey in mental health. I understand how challenging it is and isolating/stigmatizing it can feel to get help. I also know how hard it is to break the silence and trust another person. I'm very passionate about breaking the stigma of mental health and bringing symptom relief for those that are struggling. You don't have to do it alone. It can be very refreshing realizing that you are not alone in this journey. You can thrive. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, depression, spirituality, religious issues & coping with life changes. Once again, my approach is to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

I am licensed in California and I have been providing therapy for children, teens, and adults for nine years. I work hard to ensure that clients feel valued, understood, and accepted just as they are because this provides the foundation for effective therapy. When rapport and trust are established, the change process becomes available. I believe that people change by actively modifying the way they think, feel, and act in their daily lives. Therefore, I aim to help clients develop the insight, tools, and skills they need to make the changes they desire. I emphasize practical plans for applying new skills and tools learned in therapy sessions. I use interventions and tools from various approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and EMDR. I have experience in helping clients with a range of issues including depression, unresolved traumas, difficulty regulating or accessing emotion, relationship issues, and communication problems. It is a true privilege to partner with clients in their journeys toward a better life.
